A Toast for Bubbles Baby Quilt Finish
Back in March of this year, we pulled out our charm packs to make a baby quilt. The only reason I know it was March is because that’s when I shared the first picture of the fabric layout. There are so many of my favorite colors and patterns in these little charm pieces. I adore polka dots and stripes and this has oodles of both. I am not sure if we moved around any pieces but if I were a betting person (I am), I would say we did.
The Bubbles Process
Sue wanted a hand quilting project and Bubbles was the chosen designee. I don’t often do hand quilting but I enjoy binding our quilts. It is just so relaxing. We wanted the design to be an allover, overlapping circles. It was something that could have been done by the sewing machine (I have a template I wanted to try) but this was just our choice. Here is a closeup of the circles. They rather resemble the Olympic logo if you will.
The Bubbles Paper Template
For the quilting template, we use a circle made in Word and printed out on our inkjet printer. I couldn’t tell you the exact size, but a guess would be around 2.5″ or so. As you can see from this next photo, the template has been pinned and repinned several times. Good thing it was the end of the project or Sue would have had to use another piece of paper!!
Bubbles Overall & Backing
For the backing of this quilt we used the last bit of one of my favorite fabrics. These little owls are just so charming and definitely girly. I am sad to see this fabric used up but it has graced several different baby quilts. I will have a very difficult time parting with this quilt. ~smile~
Bubbles Wrap Up and Ta-Da Reveal
Here is a shot of the binding being sewn on over the weekend. We didn’t take note of the batting we used but it is thinnish. This is a wonderful summer weight baby quilt because it is so lightweight. I enjoyed sewing down this binding over my lunch break at work, as well as during a few evenings. A very light pink Gutermann thread was chosen for this task.
Most of the photos above already reflect a good bit of quilty goodness, but even more appear when it is washed.
Here is the final ta-da reveal along with a proper view of the cute owls.
We have had some wonderful news shared with us recently that a member of the Safe Family is expecting. The baby is due at the end of October and I am fairly confident that I will have a birthday buddy. We will just have to wait and see. ~smile~
