Baby J’s Baby Shower Guest Gifts
We tend to spoil our niece a little bit. We spoil her brothers, too. Not to leave any doubt, we would love to spoil more nieces and nephews if they lived closer and we actually saw them. But we rarely do. You know how that works – life gets in the way. So, back on topic, we threw a shower for Baby J. For a variety of reasons, this was the only shower for Baby J. Who knew that it was hard to get a venue for a shower??!! Apparently, the very second you conceive you need to book the room for the baby shower. Geez!
We did find a locale thankfully – and for the date we wanted too! Mom- and Dad-to-be gave us a list of invitees. I had to make an Ellie the elephant invitation – how many baby showers will we get to throw?!! Then it was time to come up with gifts for the guests who attend the shower. Hmm. I asked my Facebook friends – what did they think?? After much deliberation, mug rugs and microwave cozies were the winners.
Guest Mug Rugs
I had a slew of batik rectangles made for a quilt that we didn’t finish. Of course, we didn’t get rid of the fabric or the pieces we started! Voila – 11 mug rugs. We picked up an eclectic bunch of mugs and bowls – rather Friends-ish, if you will. Add those cute mugs and a selection of k-cups, flavored tea or hot chocolate – wrap it up and done.
Microwave cozies require special batting – all cotton everything or it might catch fire. Who knew?!?!?! So we researched and found ‘microwave’ friendly batting, cute fabric and COTTON thread. We spent a day and evening creating these but I think they turned out well. Our trial version in Cub fabric got snagged up by Tom, and Jenny loved her own special version:
Here are some of the guest cozies. We did have bowls in other colors but these were handy for the photo shoot:
We added a bag of flavored popcorn in a cellophane bag (caramel/cheese, cheese, plain or white cheddar) to the package. Then we wrapped this in a bigger cellophane bag, added a cute tag and that was it. Here the cozies are waiting to be wrapped and the first one wrapped:
We used the two gray baby quilts for decoration along with some small onesies, boxes of diapers wrapped like blocks and small stuffed animals. Here is a peek before the shindig started:
Marcy asked me how we made our cozies, so I share some specific details on that soon – hopefully by Saturday if I can get my act together. Thanks for asking, Marcy! ~smile~
