Confetti a.k.a. Leftovers Baby Quilt
I shared a sneak peak of our latest baby quilt we’re calling Confetti. We used the pattern called Leftovers by Modern Quilt Relish, and some fabulous fabric called Confetti. Couple that with some colorful fat quarters and we have a c.u.t.e. baby quilt. It makes me smile whenever I look at it. ~smile~
Without giving away all the details of the pattern, we had to cut the fat quarter pieces into strips randomly, between 2.5″ and 6″ in width. Good thing Sue was in charge of this part because I am NOT random at all. The next step was to take six of these ‘random’ cuts in assorted colors, and sew them together to make a piece of fabric 22″ in length. Okay. That sounds like a cinch, doesn’t it?!! Add six numbers together, subtract the seam allowance and boom. Easy peasy. Oh, and make eight.
Not so much for this accounting degreed person. On the first pass, two of the eight were 22″ in length. What??? How can the others be 21.5″? Pull out the seam ripper, replace that strip with a different strip . . . what, now it’s 21″? How is that even possible? Measure that again please, Sue. Anyhoo. We finally got MOST of the strips to be 22″. Seriously. 2.5 + 4.5 + 3 + 5 + 4 + 5.5 – 2.5 (seams) = 22. Sure, now I can do it. HAHA It still makes me giggle just thinking about this whole process. Good thing we can laugh at ourselves (mainly me).
Next up is quilting this with a grid pattern. It’s just begging for that, don’t you think? We have a pile of leftover strips that we’ll use for binding. They look so darn cute, all colorful and ‘random.’
Now the hard part is going to be deciding on a thread color! We are leaning toward red or green . . . I have a pretty nice red on hand that would look beautiful. But it will have to wait its turn behind a few other quilts. ~smile~
