I Love Thursday #70 – Last Day of January
This is our 70th post of things we love for the week. We post these loves each Thursday along with LeeAnna on her blog at Not Afraid of Color. Several additional friends also share on a weekly basis – be sure to check them out. You will surely find something to inspire you.
Good laughs! Not buying new fabrics due to my bestie ban hasn’t been all that hard. Seriously, Sue lifted the embargo mid-month because she wanted something for the monthly color block. Fellow blogger, Carole from From My Carolina Home was recently lamenting about how many scraps she has and struggling to find inspiration for a new QAL. In her post, she shared this Dori meme and it just struck me. My new motto for 2019 perhaps or at the very least a good chuckle whenever I see it. I hope it brings you a chuckle as well.
Start with yourself. I’ve mentioned before that I get a weekly message from Steve Beck called Beck Shorts. This week’s message was especially meaningful for me, and I thought I’d share it with you.
The following words are written on the tomb of an Anglican bishop, 1100 AD, in the crypts ofWestminster Abbey:
“When I was young and free, and my imagination had no limits, I dreamed of changing the world. As I grew older and wiser, I discovered the world would not change, so I shortened my sight somewhat and decided to change only my country…but it too seemed immovable.
As I grew into my twilight years, in one last desperate attempt I settled for changing only my family – those close to me – but alas, they would have none of it.
And now, as I lie on my deathbed, I suddenly realize that if I had changed myself first, then by example I would have changed my family. From their inspiration and encouragement, I would have then been able to better my country and who knows…I may have even changed the world.”
Don’t worry about all this out here. There’s so much activity and so much noise and so MUCH going on around us in general, it’s impossible for us to change it all.
Instead, I recommend you just worry about YOU. That’s something you CAN control. Think about the change you wish to see, and start by changing yourself, and then maybe…
You’ll change the world.
Stocking! I’ve been meaning to share Addison’s Christmas stocking. Even though she wasn’t actually here for the 2018 Christmas, we had it all ready and mom had it under the tree. I thought you might enjoy seeing Dominic’s as well.
All I Want to Do is Dream! Dream, dream, dream. Dreammmmmmm. Singing with me now or are you to young to know that song? Anyhoo – Missouri Star Quilt Company sent out an email with this subject. They were offering some of their older issues of Block magazine. I didn’t partake in the offering, and I find I don’t really need much help in that area. Between all the different blogs I check on, and what those bloggers are working on or quilting, I find a lot of inspiration. Couple that with the daily Pinterest offerings, models in our local quilt shop, and emails from fabric companies – our to-do list is beyond full. As you saw in the MASTER list post! How about you – where do you find your inspiration?
Aurifil is Making an Impact. Here’s a fabulous post about what the Aurifil thread company is doing to minimize the impact from their plastic spools. Even more importantly, they are also supporting the plastic cleanup issue so that they leave no imprint. I just want to shout this from the rooftops, I am so thrilled to read about this initiative. Not only are the being proactive, but hopefully this will encourage a new industry standard for all the millions of spools that may not be recycled each year. One small step . . . with huge rewards. I am spoolfully hopeful. Of course, I challenge them to replace the plastic altogether. Can we not aim HIGH and shoot for a negative imprint on our earth?
No Dominic and Addison photos. I do not like or love not sharing those at all. I have heard nothing from Bloglovin’ to resolve the blocking-a-follower option. Each Thursday that I cannot share these photos will remind me to ask them again. Eventually they will get sick of hearing my request and tell the truth. Either they ARE working on the programming change, and can provide a implementation date. Or, they are NOT working on it and they lie with a placating comment. Please consider asking them yourself as it truly is a simple programming of code for everyone’s safety. Not to mention all the cute photos you are missing. 🙁
Short and sweet for this week. Happy Thursday! See you next week with more loves.
