Layer-Cake Lattice Tutorial – Free Pattern
The Fat Quarter Shop on their blog, The Jolly Jabber, shared a tutorial that I thought you might be interested in. It is called Layer Cake Lattice It uses a layer-cake, or a precut 10″ squares. Of course, you can always cut your own fabric! We happen to have a few layer-cake fabrics lying around that we haven’t gotten around to using yet.
Their pattern gives you the fabric requirements for crib, lap, twin and queen size quilts. I am a big fan of the ‘woven’ look, and this quilt achieves that. You can see it a bit better in this other shot:
I love the colors in this quilt! This looks like it would go together quickly. If you look at the basic block of three rows, you can see it would be pretty simple to make:
Layer-cake block:
It is similar to a nine-patch with the center row all one piece of fabric instead of three pieces. As you layout the quilt blocks you alternate the direction of that middle section, either going vertical or horizontal. The baby quilt only requires 20 blocks and measures 38.5″ x 48″. This may need to go on our list of quilts to make! What do you think? Would you make this quilt or have you already?
