Merry Mystery Quilt Along Update
We are participating in I Wish You a Merry QAL. It is our second mystery quilt along this year. It seems a little stressful picking out fabrics for a block, without knowing where the quilt itself is going. But we purchased some lovely fabrics called Red Dot, Green Dash by Moda in a fat quarter bundle:
Our stash of Christmas fabric was pretty much non-existent. Three non-coordinating fabrics does not a stash make!
Our Merry Block #1
The QAL releases blocks every other Tuesday. That is a nice pace! Especially for those of us participating in other QALs that release new blocks weekly. The first block is a snowflake appliqué block:
I didn’t actually appliqué around the pieces but did a straight stitch instead. Vanda Chittenden is the designer. My favorite part of her design is the secondary sunburst that is created when the pieces are placed close together. Follow the link above and click on Photos and you will see all the different and creative blocks that have been shared.
An interesting note about this pattern – some people participating in the QAL turned the individual pieces of this block around. It gives the block a totally different look. You can see those photos on the Facebook page as well.
Our Merry Block #2
Tree Farm is the name of the second block. April Adams of Janda Bend Quilts is the designer, and they own a tree farm:
You could make this block by using a paper pieced method or with templates made from the pattern shared. We chose to purchase rulers to make the 60-degree trees. We used some of the brown fabric leftover from Tom and Jenny’s animal quilt for the tree stumps. The block finishes at 12″.
Our Linky Parties can be found by clicking the link for more quilting fun. Check out what our friends are up to. Like/follow us on our Facebook page and share your QAL blocks or whatever you’re working on! We would love to see them. ~smile~
