Organizing, Dreaming, Drawing, etc.
A new year, a fresh start and the return to routine. Did you leave behind some old baggage or worries that can just stay back in 2019? I did. The two-week, sixteen-day (16!!) break I enjoyed over the holidays just flew by. We did fun things, spent time with family and friends, and overall had a fabulous time. The mental list I had for completion during those 16 days didn’t get wholly checked off. There are oodles of items I had hoped to list on Etsy and that didn’t happen. Some organizing, dreaming, drawing and list-making did occur though!
I can’t even share a BEFORE photo of the chair in the sewing room. Sue would absolutely KILL me. HAHA! Not that I’m scared of her one bit but there would definitely be harsh words shared. Being the peacemaker that I am and never (ever! <wink>) trying to stir-the-pot as it were, I abstained. We did do a bit of organizing and it was fun!
Sue already had one of these on her table, leftover from her teaching-classroom days. The drawers didn’t easily open and she was frustrated with it. On the other side of the room, I always have important crap sitting about. It needs to be handy yet does it need to be THAT handy??! So I popped online, ordered two from Target through Rakentan, and picked them up in the front of the store. No browsing the tempting sales and shelves for this girl – did you even know that Target has a pickup-in-store option? AND there’s also a “they’ll-bring-stuff-out-to-you” option as well although it’s worded much nicer.
My workspace looks pretty darn much the same as it did back in November 2018 when I wrote about our sewing room space. The quarter is gone, the spare pins are in one of the drawers above, and I have added a few more important gadgets to my cup that holds important pencils and such. Fabrics have been put away, scraps have been trimmed into 2″ and 2.5″ pieces, and it’s a space more conducive to creating.
Dreaming and Drawing Happening
Technically speaking, dreaming should require sleep and that just hasn’t been happening. Two separate nights I have stayed awake the entire time, and that makes for very long following days. We won’t get into the reasons why sleep is evading me, but dreaming CAN happen without sleep. That vegetative state when you are kind of slumping along or are totally relaxed allows for much mental exercise. I spent one night mentally picturing the plaid quilting I’ll be doing on the January OMG (one monthly goal).
I eventually had to get up and draw it out, using a ruler, pencil, and eraser. Part of me says that I should quilt it in a denser plaid pattern. Seriously though, how much time do I want to spend on this quilt top – the pattern above is sufficient. One shouldn’t argue with oneself in the middle of the night so I acquiesced.
Sue doesn’t really care for it when I spend too much time ‘dreaming’ about projects. It
usually always means I’m going to be adding something to The Master List.
I have been informed that TWO projects that we have been working on are NOT on the list. That information was shared with me on January 2nd. What can I say? The Master List (TML) was incomplete and it’s short with only 40 items. It’s just that simple. Here are a few projects that Sue doesn’t know about, that aren’t on TML, and we may or may not get involved with:
- paper-piecing the Princesses starting with Belle from Beauty & The Beast
- bookcase design quilt
- Harry Porter design and quilt – need to research this
- paper-piecing hummingbird – get this mastered finally
- something with polar bears and penguins – together or separately ?!
- door hanging for a generic season that can hang for a few months – like a snowman but I don’t want or like to celebrate snow
Are you organizing, dreaming, drawing, and/or making lists too? I’m linking up with Pretty Piney and Cooking Up Quilts today – I lost my website for a bit this weekend. For some reason, all my sidebar links disappeared. Yeah, that was a fun time! Unfortunately, I still don’t have the code for their two link up parties.
Join us each Tuesday for our hosted linky party called To-Do Tuesday. Our other Linky Parties can be found by clicking the link above or along the sidebar on our website for more quilting fun – check out what our friends are up to. Like/follow us on our Facebook page and you can share your photos of what you’re working on. We would love to see them!
