Pieces From the Past Sew-Along – Starts Soon
Today I’m sharing some news about a unique sew-along opportunity from my friend, Melva and her blog Melva Loves Scraps. If you check out the link, you will see more details about the Kansas City Star quilt patterns that will be featured. While her actual sew-along may not be unique, certainly, the circumstances behind the scene are. Melva’s sew-along is entitled Pieces From the Past with a very good reason.
Pieces From the Past – Quilts and Letters
Melva has many letters and Kansas City Star quilt patterns from her Grandmother, Grandma Schleich. She will be featuring each pattern and a special letter written to Grandma Schleich from German officers held in Trinidad, CO camp for POWs. Melva has written to CT Publishing and received permission to share and host this sew-along. There will be prizes but even more unique and interesting are the letters that will be shared.
Pieces Sew-Along Details
The sew-along will start in late January with a pattern block and letter being published once every three weeks. That is a nicely paced sew-along, don’t you think? It allows you enough time to keep up as each block is released, with not too much time in between so you forget about it.
With Kansas City Star blocks being highlighted from 1928 to 1961, all lovers of the 1930s reproduction fabrics have the perfect medium for you. I am one of ‘those people’ who do not enjoy 30s fabrics. The 20 fat quarters I select for this sampler quilt top will definitely have a modern feel to them. Sue is actually a fan of the reproduction fabrics, but since I’m doing the sewing and quilting I’m going to overrule her. Truthfully, the block shown above from Melva could really change my feelings about the reproduction fabrics. I just love it!
