Road Trip – Field’s Fabric – Jenison, Michigan
We recently drove over to Grand Rapids, Michigan for a quilt class. That sounds a bit extravagant and it probably is. Unless you compare it to flying to Nashville in February (for a quilt show) and staying in a hotel for four nights. THAT sounds much more extravagant, don’t you think?!! My intent was to expose us to more hands-on FMQ classes. Grand Rapids had some nice offerings and it isn’t too far away.
Michigan Quilt Shop(s)
After our class, we stopped at Field’s Fabrics in Jenison. Field’s has several quilt shops in the Grand Rapids area. We chose the Jenison shop for only one reason. It was the closest one to Highway 196 and truly on the way home. The other shops weren’t THAT far out of the way, but it was raining. Have you ever driven through Chicago traffic? Add in rain to the mix and forget about it.
We had a specific idea in mind when we popped in. We recently finished the quilt top for Luke, another Plus Playtime in black and grays. There is a geometry-themed fabric by Timeless Treasures called Back to School, Geometry Class. An online search led us to Amazon, where this fabric was available from Field’s Fabrics. How nice that we would be near their stores in Michigan. Rather an obvious sign, wouldn’t you say, that this was the fabric we should get?
I am sad to say that they did not have the fabric in stock. They did have a fabulous selection of fabrics though, and many that we have not seen before. We didn’t take any pictures, darn it, but we could have done a lot of damage here. I think we may need to take another road trip over, with more specific projects in mind. (We ordered the fabric online from eQuilter.) I’ll bet could even talk a friend or two into going with us. Maybe!
Our other Linky Parties can be found by clicking the link or along the sidebar on our website for more quilting fun – check out what our friends are up to. Like/follow us on our Facebook page and you can share your photos of what you’re working on. We would love to see them!
