Road Trip – Quilt Play, Grayslake, Illinois
Update 10-14-17: Quilt Play closed for good as of this date, unfortunately.
It was a beautiful, sunny, 73 degree Saturday in August with low humidity. Doesn’t that sound like an oxymoron? August and low humidity? Yes, it did happen and we enjoyed every minute of it. We needed a break to let the sewing room cool off a bit so we popped over to Quilt Play in Grayslake, IL. I share their Facebook page as that has much more information on it that their website.
It is an easy shop to find, right near Great America in Gurnee. Since I drive that way every weekday, we took the back roads and it took only 35 minutes or so. What a nice selection of fabrics they offer. We were looking for some borders for the jigsaw quilt we are designing. We also wanted a backing for the confetti baby quilt. We were successful in finding both! They also had plenty of other tempting options. Sue reminded me that we had plenty on our to-do list now . . . okay. ~half smile~

Kay and Jennifer from Quilt Play
Here you see Jennifer, cutting one of the fabrics we picked up. This is the backing for the confetti quilt. It certainly is fitting, isn’t it?!
Quilt Play – Grayslake
Quilt Play does offer classes, and they were participating in the 2017 Row by Row Experience. We picked up a copy of their pattern. It would have made a nice hanging for Sue’s classroom if she was returning to it this year. Here are a couple of shots of their fabric rows, mostly organized by color:
Another cool thing to note about this Grayslake shop is that they are open seven days a week! So few shops are that it is really noteworthy. This will be a shop that we visit again. Perhaps not on another non-humid day in August but definitely sooner than later. If you visit, tell them Home Sewn By Us sent you. ~smile~

Our August in Central Indiana has been gorgeous!! What a great shop to visit.
Hi Chris,
This shop had SO many fabrics I wanted to bring home . . . but had to stop myself. Our waiting-to-start project list has too many on it already. Thanks so much for your visit and comment. I really appreciate it! ~smile~ Roseanne
Hasn’t August been different this year? Northern Indiana is also enjoying cooler than normal, less humidity than normal days. Yesterday 3 friends and I went to the AQS show in Grand Rapids, MI. It was a lovely day. Normally when we walk out of the air conditioned show center, it’s like walking into an oven. It was such a pleasant day! The dotted fabrics is going to be wonderful for quilt backing.
Hi Gretchen! I keep thinking the shoe is going to drop as far as the weather. School is about to start so it has to warm up, right?!! Thanks so much for your nice comments and visit – I appreciate it so much. ~smile~ Roseanne
