TGIFF and December OMG Quilt Top Finished
Our TGIFF Finish
The two-fer Friday Finish I am happy to share today is also our December OMG project. During all of 2019, we have been following along with Jen at PBJ or Patterns by Jen. She has hosted a 2019 Monthly Color Challenge and we started playing along in mid-January and each and every month thereafter.
Above are the first six of the monthly blocks, and you can see there is a different color for each. Jen focused on flowers for her inspiration, such as the carnation and the marigold. This was so much fun that we will be playing along in 2020 – more details will be released later this month that may have you wanting to play along as well.
December Block Finish
Fittingly enough, the crocus or purple is the final color for 2019. I find it fitting mostly because that color always makes me think of my mother. Violet Evelyn was her name and that also was her favorite color, plus December was her birthday month. A nice deep, rich purple polka dot fabric is our choice for the block. We coupled that with the white/beach polka dot we used for all the blocks throughout the challenge.
Finished Friday and OMG Finish
Right away we faced the question, Do we want to add a sashing between each block and maybe even a cornerstone or two? Several blogger friends suggested that yes, we do want to add a sashing. Denise at For the Love of Geese added the cornerstone fabric suggestion. What a great idea – make a cornerstone from the featured fabric from each month. Sue got busy cutting these cornerstones while I ordered the fabric for the sashing – how perfect is this? The exact opposite pattern in White swiss dots on Beach-colored fabric while the background used throughout was Beach swiss dots on the White fabric.
As soon as Sue had all the cornerstone pieces cut out, we set about placing them on the design wall. Ooh-la-la, this is starting to look g-o-o-d. It was time to get to sewing this into a quilt top.
Finished Friday OMG Quilt Top
Saturday was spent mostly piecing this quilt top. A few breaks were taken for some red postage stamp fabric trimming as mentioned on Monday! I took a quick closeup photo as I was pressing as it really shows the sashing against the background nicely.
Finally, here is the quilt top, all pieced together and looking g-o-o-d. Of course, now it can go in the stressful to-be-quilted pile that I really need to address soon. Maybe for the next OMG or even TGIFF as we’re hosting again at the end of February. Without further ado, here is our finished Monthly Color Block quilt top!
Later this month we will link this post up on Patty’s Elm Street Quilts December OMG finish. I thank Patty for again hosting this linky party as we have had an OMG project finish for over two years. Thank you so much for joining the link up for TGIFF! If you would like to host a Friday yourself check out the link for more information. We will be linking this as a 4th quarter Finish-A-Long.
Each Tuesday we host a linky party called To-Do Tuesday. Please feel free to join us and we’ll be having a giveaway on the last one for 2019 on December 31st. Check back for the details.
