The Other Quilt Store, Phoenix, AZ
We recently visited a good friend in the Phoenix area over the long weekend and couldn’t help but stop (a.k.a. shop) in a few local quilt stores. Four stores with completely different vibes were mapped out carefully on the rental car map, taking into account their posted hours from their individual websites. Thankfully, all were up-to-date and accurate (a pet peeve of mine when wrong) and I’m happy to share a bit about each one over the next few days.
The Other Quilt Store (found here http://theotherquiltshop.com/index.html with Sherri and Kevin) was a friendly place to visit. Located on a busy street, our friend Google Map gave us accurate directions and we had no issues finding it in spite of the drizzle. We were welcomed as soon as we entered the store by both owners, offered assistance and updated with the current specials. They were holding what appeared to be a class but it was actually several women pre-cutting March’s kit fabrics so the offering could be produced in a four hour class.
We browsed around and quickly found an interesting pattern to try out, a new “favorite” fabric (20% off) and some fat quarters that matched well. We picked up two yards of the new fabric although the pattern called for only 1.75 yards – do you do that too? Get a little extra just because. . . ? I think that’s how a stash is started. 😀 We will go into much more detail about this project when we start the quilt. Hopefully the fabric will still be one of our favorites and I can almost guarantee that we will have stumbled upon a new number one!
We hadn’t gone on a road trip quilting shopping expedition in quite a while, and including The Other Quilt Shop absolutely made this long weekend really fun. It is always nice to meet fellow quilters, and I am always amazed by how nice, inviting and helpful they can be. Thank you to Sherri and Kevin for welcoming us into their store.
