To-Do #52+20 Weekly Updated
This is our 72nd edition of our weekly to-do list. We share this post on Beth’s Cooking Up Quilts website on Mondays, and Christine’s Stitch All the Things website on Tuesdays. Check it out as other friends post their to-do lists as well! ~smile~
To-Do for the week of August 20th through 26th:
- Finish quilting delectable mountains table runner – done √
- Layer fall leaves for hand quilting – done √
- Find backing for the pixel heart quilt and sew on borders – done √
After my success with floppy feathers on our Garden Gate quilt, I was filled with confidence. So much so, that I tried quilting swirls on this long-standing UFO, Delectable Dogsleds. We picked this fabric up in Juneau, Alaska on probably our first visit back in 2000 or so. The pattern calls for a border all around but we didn’t have enough fabric. Our plan was to find some that matched, and that never happened. Instead, it was safely stored in a drawer. I’ll share another post with all the details, but here is a closeup of the swirly quilting.
This Fall Leaves quilt top has been together for a few weeks, awaiting a border. We had picked up the matching fabric with the charm pack, but then we really didn’t like it. I have to wonder sometimes what we were thinking other than it was available?!! We found this fabulous backing but with the addition of the borders, it was too small. Sue cut down those awful gold borders, and now we both can live with them. Blessings is the name of this backing.
Hand quilting will commence now that we are both happy with the potential outcome!
Here are the different shaped leaves Sue is going to use for hand-quilting. It seems like a nice representation of the different types, don’t you think?!
The Pixel Heart quilt is a lap sized quilt. Therefore, it required a bigger sized backing either via a seam or one of the oversized fabric pieces. We like to use the oversize pieces mostly because I’m not a fan of the seamed backing. I don’t think Sue cares one way or another, so she acquiesces to my decision and I thank her for that! Since this quilt is for a five-year-old girl we wanted it to have a somewhat girly backing, and purple seemed to call out to us. With borders added, and an orange peel quilting design on the docket, this only needs to be layered now.
This purple is rather royal looking I think. What do you think??
For our Elm Street Quilts’ August OMG we are going to quilt and bind Garden Gate. This will also complete a UFO from last October. This is all complete, and I’ll share a post tomorrow!
