To-Do #52+21 Weekly Update
This is our 73rd edition of our weekly to-do list. We share this post on Christine’s Stitch All the Things website on Tuesdays. Check it out as other friends post their to-do lists as well! ~smile~
To-Do for the week of August 27th through September 2nd:
- Layer and start quilting Pixel Heart – √ done
- Continue practicing the FMQ techniques we learned in Grand Rapids – √ done
- Start sewing Rainy Days – √ done
- Celebrate two special birthdays (GG’s and Dominic’s ♥ ♥)
My plans for the Pixel Heart quilt were to use an orange peel quilting design. Each block finished at 3″ so that seemed a natural choice to me. However, that did not consider the different thicknesses involved because clothing items were used. The idea was aborted after three sides of a block were orange peeled. While very cute, that design was just NOT going to work. Our fallback choice is always straight line quilting on the diagonal, which worked swimmingly well for this quilt. Quilting is well underway but it was raining all weekend so pictures were too dark. Here is a pity photo showing the border and the straight-line stitching.
Sue and I do not have a learning curve on our respective sewing machines, Lily and Ellie. Well, I should say I don’t anyway. Since I had to unlearn bad habits, a new stippling project was in order. I shouldn’t have through in that little loop as I’ve been told that is a meander instead of a stipple. The quilt police will have grounds for my arrest.
Rainy Days is a jelly roll quilt reminiscent of the Spiral quilt we made last year. Only this one is better because the blocks were pieced more carefully (!!), so no bad words were said aloud or even thought. Rows one and two are together. It occurred to me that if I get this together, there will be another flimsy awaiting quilting. I’m allowing this project to pause temporarily for now!
You betcha we celebrated two special birthdays on Saturday. Happy 85th and 1st birthday to our favorite peeps! We are so blessed to have both of you in our lives. ♥♥ A certain young man was tired when we tried to get a picture with GG, so that didn’t quite happen. Darn it! Other pictures coming on Thursday for our weekly likes and loves.
For our Elm Street Quilts’ September OMG we are going to quilt and bind I Wish You A Merry!
