To-Do #52+30 Weekly Recap Update
This is our 82nd edition of our weekly to-do list. We share this post on Beth’s Cooking Up Quilts website on Mondays, and Christine’s Stitch All the Things website on Tuesdays. Check it out as other friends post their to-do lists as well! ~smile~
This fabric is SOOOOOO nice. It’s from the Fat Quarter shop and is 108″ wide. Beautiful neutral swirls or possibly spirals. I could just quilt following the backside pattern and ignore the front all together. Hmmm. Overlapping spirals – don’t I want something similar on another quilt, like Rainy Days?!

To-Do for the week of October 29th through November 4th:
- Layer Up From Here – √ done
- Continue working on Baby Girl’s quilt – √ done
- Sew Fireburst together (and maybe layer it?) – √ done
To-Do #1
Up From Here, our choice for the latest low-key QAL has been layered. What an accomplishment, heh?! Layering is actually one of my least favorite parts of the quilting process. Necessary yes! I’ll bet you’re wondering what we chose for the backing. Me, too! HAHAHAHA. Here’s a photo of the layering process and specifically the backing. Of course I forgot to take a picture once complete. I wouldn’t want to have to unfold it just for a picture, right?!
To-Do #2
The appliqué process has just started with George the Giraffe. Since the leaves were finished last week, we determined that we made enough. George and his tree need to be buttonholed first, so here we go. George is all pinned on the gray background. Missing are his face and tail, plus his friendly smile and eyes. We like George facing the tree, checking out which leaf to eat next.
To-Do #3
Fireburst has nine blocks, or your basic three by three layout. By my count, only eight seams will be sewn to get it all together. This needed to be a weekly to-do goal?! Wow. Does that tell you anything about my sewing motivation of late? As I told Tish who is the wonderful designer and host of this QAL, I am hoping this flimsy whispers to me how it wants to be quilted. Somewhere during the week my mojo came back kinda . . . so layering did happen but no quilting whispering. Or I may be deaf. Did I mention that I don’t like layering? Sue doesn’t either. Why did we do four of them at one time?? No picture but at least there’s proof that all the seams are indeed together.
November OMG
We chose to finish Luke’s Plus Playtime as our November OMG. It is great that one half of the small plus signs are quilted now. Woohoo!To-Do November 5th through 11th:
- Pumpkin blog hop this week – free pattern available on Thursday
- Get little George all buttonholed and maybe the tree too
- FMQ a few more Plus signs
Our other Linky Parties can be found by clicking the link or along the sidebar on our website for more quilting fun – check out what our friends are up to. Like/follow us on our Facebook page and you can share your photos of what you’re working on. We would love to see them!
I do like the Up From Here backing. Mine is getting closer to the top of the stack of things to do, but I’m wondering why Regatta isn’t. I love the pattern, so where did it de-rail after the first six strips? Your giraffe quilt is just perfect. I like it SO much!
Seeing Fireburst all together, that background is so wonderful and makes the quilt uniquely stunning. It’s very angular, so I would normally do something curvy, but for this, I think it needs to stay angles. Get out that blue painter’s tape and tape out some options, maybe?
That backing is fantastic; the perfect choice for that quilt! I am excited to see George the Giraffe quilt take shape. And that block is fantastic!!
I feel your pain with layering. I was spoiled by working in a quilt shop where I always had access to 3’x6′ tables. I need some, especially in Maine where it is harder to get someplace. I have to finish my back for Tish’s too – my machine gave way last time I was working on it. I’m going to stop replying to things and get on it!!
HAHAHAHAHA! Stop READING and replying to things!! heehee Roseanne
How wonderful that you got that many layered. I guess I need to just drag out my table and get as many sandwiched as possible. But that means a trip to get more batting before I do!!
What do you dislike the most about layering? I love the backing fabric too, very nice. Are you hand sewing George down or machine sewing? Fireburst is lovely, hope the quilting muse appears!
That backing fabric is beautiful! Fireburst is popping right along! It will be exploding into a finish in no time 🙂
So, no inspiration yet on quilting Fireburst? Me neither, but I’m pondering. You have some good projects lined up!
Busy Ladies! I have that same backing fabric in my storage tub! Happy Monday my friend!
Looks like some great projects!
