To-Do #52+4 Weekly Update
This is our 56th edition of our weekly to-do list. We share this post on Christine’s Stitch All the Things website on Tuesdays. Check them out! ~smile~
To-Do for the week April 30th through May 6th:
- Sew squares together for two pillow shams – √ done
- Assemble another row for t-shirts – √ done
- Determine layout for table topper – √ done
- Sew another row for I Spy – √ done
- Sew five more 16-patch blocks – √ done
What was I thinking when I assigned us with all this to do in ONE week?! Good grief. I was stressing Saturday night with all the unfinished things.
We had exactly 24 extra HSTs left over after Postcard, so that dictated the size of the pillow shams. Three by four it is – I hope that is big enough! The tops are sewn together. There was only odd pieces of Postcard’s backing leftover as well so I had to make it work. That phrase makes me think of Tim Gunn . . . Here is a little sneaky peeky:
Before another row could be assembled in the t-shirt quilt, one block had an odd shape. It curved under the arm of the shirt to the back, but it couldn’t be squared off due to the sleeve. Hmm. Should we cut off part of the manatee? No, that wouldn’t do. So we had to add a background piece to the curves. I used the new Clover chalk marking ‘pen’ and it worked GREAT for this. The white chalk brushed right off with NO residue. Cool!
We used the instructions for making curved pieced blocks. It is the same principle, and then Sue squared off the whole piece to make a rectangle. It fits fabulously in the row now. Soon we will be sharing the completed t-shirt quilt but no sneaky peaky of this – it has to be a surprise for Pat. She could read this after all.
It’s not hard to figure out the layout for a table topper that consists of only 10 blocks. The harder part was to determine what to use for a border. Hmm. What do we have that’s big enough? I recall that we ordered some blue fabric that was the wrong shade for Evening Star. Yessss indeed . . . we may as well use that up don’t you think?! Here’s the layout and sashing strips may be cut already for this. Last 10 blocks for this UFO.
Our sweet, sweet boy came over for a visit Saturday morning. GG stopped over too for coffee, which Dominic helped me make. He is a great supervisor, making sure I add just the right amount of coffee and water. He forgot to check on the status of his I Spy quilt, but a few more rows were attended to during the week as promised. I am still so grateful for the help from our quilting friends with these blocks.
Yippee – five more blocks are ready for the Spiral quilt. Just a few more and it will be time for quilting. That is once we figure out the backing! We are using a Rainy Days jelly roll by Me and My Sister for this really quick quilt.
May OMG Goal:
Our Elm Street Quilts May OMG goal is to quilt and bind the Evening Star quilt. This is also on our PHD list of UFOs. The poor thing has been languishing away since November 2017 and it still has not been touched yet this month!
To-Do May 7th through 13th:
- Begin quilting Evening Star
- Add sashing strips to table topper
- Begin quilting doll quilt
- Continue I Spy rows
- Select fabrics for Spring island runner
We wish you a week filled with many blessings and good sewing/quilting vibes!
