To-Do Tuesday Linky #56 & Weekly Progress Update
Join us for the 56th linky party post and the 176th weekly to-do list. Gladys Taber wrote, “Contentment is a list with half of it crossed off.”
To-Do for the week of August 25th through 31st:
- Watch Super Bowl 31 – √ done
- Finish Dominic’s big boy quilt – √ done
- Whatever we want! – √ done
To-Do #1
Apparently, I underestimated the knowledge base of my blog reading audience. The 2021 Super Bowl, if it’s held in January/February, is #55. Super Bowl #31 was held in 1996 with the Green Bay Packers beating the NE Patriots. Brett Favre and his teammates at their best. I neglected to mention that it was a replay of that game, in a desperate attempt by our local NBC station to attract viewers, in my goal setting post last week.
Sue’s sister spent the evening with us and we enjoyed every minute of it. Enjoying a fish fry, spending priceless moments trying to wear out the two oldest littles, and partaking of some wine happened before we all hit the sack. To bring this full circle, I’ve added a picture of an ornament in the making (that still isn’t complete) in GB colors and a shot of a younger Packer fan in his Elmo slippers taken in 2018.
To-Do #2
An August OMG finish?! Was that even possible after the back-in-the-office month I’ve had? If you read yesterday’s post (A Big Boy Bed Truck Quilt Finished), you know that is was indeed an option and that it happened right under the wire. Since Dominic’s birthday is tomorrow, we may yet get a picture of the quilt with its new owner when we partay on Friday! I wanted to share a closeup of the extra buttonholing required on the green piece.
Love #3
We did work in the sewing room on Saturday in “Operation Clear the Chair” as Sue called it. We have an upholstered chair in the sewing room that ends up being the dropping grounds for everything fabric. On the chair is the to-be-quilted projects, new fabrics as they arrive (to be properly admired), etc. Apparently, Sue thinks it is getting to be too messy. I acquiesced and started quilting a birthday gift for her mom. We needed it finished right away as a gift since she turned 85 the very next day. We did an impromptu immediate family party for her with brownies and coffee. While we forgot to get a photo of her with her table runner, we did manage to get a Happy Birthday GG photo instead.
August OMG
Thank you to Patty’s at Elm Street Quilts and her monthly linky party. We eeked out our August OMG project finish and shared all the details on Monday. Check it out for the details on Dominic’s big boy bed truck quilt. We’ll share our September goal and project tomorrow.

Hi Roseanne, good luck with all of your goals and projects. Have fun with the birthday celebration and the day off! I’m looking forward to that too! Take care
I saw your finish yesterday and it’s fabulous! What detailed stitching you did! Thank you for sharing that close up picture! Lovely and precious memories were made! The “birthday girl” looks so very joyful! Thank you for sharing such lovely memories with us!
Unfortunately since my work from home space ended up being the singer 301 cabinet, I have been piecing on the “big machine” and not quilting! I need to get that rearranged soon.
Oh I miss the Brett Favre days! I’m a Chiefs fan (Super Bowl #54 winners!) but he was always a favorite player–especially when beating the Patriots! Glad you got Dominic’s quilt done in time and Operation Clear the Chair is funny. (I guess I currently have “Operation Clear the Quilt Frame” since I have 3 quilts to be quilted hanging on there–soon to be a 4th). Looks like you have a fun week ahead.
I need to do some clearing myself. Mine is more like table clearing. Hope you have a great time celebrating Dominic’s birthday on Friday. I’m sure you’ll be ready to celebrate his birthday and getting through the first week back at school with the kids! Hang in there! Mary
I’ve been draping quilt tops waiting to quilt over the back of the chair in my sewing room. Doesn’t everyone have one of those chairs!?
Birthday celebrations are under way at your house!
I’m happy to see the photo of the littles with GG (Colt would have had his hand in his mouth too, if GG hadn’t been holding on to it). Congrats on meeting your goals. Happy to see that you’ve lightened the load for the coming week, what with being back to work and a holiday in there that needs to be celebrated. I think you probably need to take good care of yourself so you don’t get that nasty bug!!!
It is always entertaining to read about your weekly escapades. Sounds like Sue does her best to keep you on track.
LOL! I have a chair just like yours! Mine is purple, if I remember correctly! “smile”, I wondered how many of your followers were football fans and would know you were re-watching? I did, cause I have a favorite game or two also. #50 is a recent one. I wonder what will become of the Super Bowl?
Happy Birthday to the boy!!! And also to Mom! I am sure they both will cherish their Quilty gifts.
Oh yes, I think many of us have those places like your chair. Mine happens to be the top of my dresser, which catches everything I don’t want to deal with at the moment. It is somewhat clear now, but will fill up again soon, I expect. Love the photo of the littles with Sue’s mom – sweet! Happy 85th to her!
I am looking forward to a long weekend and thinking it should be a 4 day weekend. Perhaps I should have an operation clear the basket. All of my quilted tops are stacked up on an old apple basket awaiting binding and the pile is almost as tall as my cutting table. I really enjoyed reading the big boy quilt post and glad to see you have what looks like an easy To-Do list this week. Thank you for the linky party, all I have to share is my QAL blocks for the new month because everything else is secret sewing.
I love that clearing the chair off can result in a birthday gift being completed in just a short time! I think we all have a spot like that in our sewing rooms. 🙂 Happy Birthday to D and also Sue’s mom! Have a great week, Roseanne!
The big boy truck quilt is adorable! Enjoy the birthday party and the Labor Day holiday.
Love the photo of GG and the little ones!
Sue’s mom looks so happy with her little great-grands piled on her lap. Caption: “This is what Joy looks like.” Thank you for sharing that beautiful moment! Happy birthday to your little Dominic and congratulations to you on finishing up that fabulous quilt for him. Have a wonderful celebration with your family and savor every sweet moment! Oh, and the Chair of Despair in the studio? I have one, too! Only mine gets the leftover batting and backing fabric piled on it after a newly-quilted quilt is trimmed, with lofty plans of sorting and saving those bits in appropriate scrap bins, and then another quilt’s trimmings piles up, and another…
You’ve got a lot of birthdays to celebrate in just a couple of weeks. Happy belated birthday to Sue’s Mom and happy birthday to Dominic. Hope you get to rest and relax a bit over the holiday, sounds like back to school was really stressful.
LOL @ “Operation Clear the Chair”!!!! Dom’s quilt looks lovely and it was sweet to see Sue’s Mom with the little ones! Have a safe and happy week!
