Block #16/25 called Small Change was released on Wednesday by Pat Sloan in her quilt along called Grandma’s Kitchen. Good thing I am getting so much practice with HSTs between her patterns and the Evening Star blocks. This one calls for 10 in the 10″ block. We are getting closer to the end of this quilt along. It will be finished right before Thanksgiving.

We are also participating in the I Wish You A Merry quilt along, and two blocks were released this week. Block #7 is a poinsettia and block #8 are presents. We’re not making block #8 because we don’t like it – we’ll make another angel to represent Sue’s brother (she lost her brother and sister within six months of each other). My friend and fellow blogger, Kathryn, gave me the idea – thank you! Here is our poinsettia:

The animal panels quilt tops are all together. We used the dark blue sashing in both so they look the same yet different:
#4
Our October One Monthly Goal (OMG) is the Evening Star quilt. The block measures approximately 9″ unfinished. We are leaning toward making the quilt 4 x 5 rows with a border. Or we could add sashing instead of a border. Here are the first four blocks. That is enough for the first row but I’m going to wait until we can lay them all out. I like the secondary pattern that is being formed:

How much fun did I have on Columbus Day with this sweet great-nephew?? Lots and lots! Here he is on his Play Ball quilt in his little monkey jammies. His baptism went well on a very rainy Saturday afternoon. He didn’t cry for the ceremony or while the priest showed him off to all the church members. ~smile~
October OMG Goal:
- Evening Star is not half done yet. Yikes only two full weeks to go!
To-Do October 16th through 22nd:
- Sew block #17 in the Grandma’s Kitchen QAL
- Sew four more Evening Star block (or more)
- Start quilting one animal panel
- Research materials for a Christmas stocking

I absolutely fell in love itch your pointsettia block. Your color/fabric choices really make the block. I can’t wait to see the rest of the blocks. Your great-nephew looks like a really sweet little guy. He doesn’t know how lucky he is to have the sweet quilt beneath him. Congratulations all of your accomplishments! You go girl! 😊
Hi Cindy! Thanks so much for your sweet comments. Sue does the fabric selection 80% of the time, and she does agonize over it. Sometimes I just have a vision in my head and then I pick out all the fabrics – it just depends. That little guy just makes my day and week – he’s growing like a weed. ~smile~ Roseanne
Roseanne, They do grow really fast! If only we could snuggle them a bit longer. Picking fabrics can really me a nightmare. I love when it goes smoothly, without hiccups! 😊
What a great week you have had on your list! Love all your blocks and what you did with the panels. Hope you meet your OMG. Sadly, I’m behind on my goal.
Hi Sharon,
Thanks so much for your sweet comments! That was a great week, only to be followed by an abysmal one. Oh well. I don’t think my first OMG is going to be finished either, but the world won’t stop revolving. I’ll finish it in November then! ~smile~ Roseanne
Evening star blocks are super neat. Yes, the secondary pattern is why I say no sashing and yes to border. The mixed 9 patch centers are really a special. Baby is extra special.
Hi Marcy,
I’m leaning toward no sashing, too – I agree with your suggestion! And I think it will need borders just to make it a bit larger and to finish it off. Thanks so much for your visit and comment! ~smile~ Roseanne
That’s a big list! Love the 9 patch stars tho!
Hi Alycia,
That is a list I’m not doing too well on this week. HAHA One got a free ride because a new block wasn’t released after all. ~smile~ Roseanne
Love all of the blocks! I do see, and like, the secondary pattern that is showing up with your Evening Star quilt. And, by now you know how much I love the baby pictures… so it pretty much goes without saying that is my favorite picture in the post. How fun to get to babysit him for a whole day!
Hi Christine,
I was surprising how tired I was at the end of the day – and he isn’t mobile yet. He is one busy baby – I can only imagine how he’ll be as a toddler. ~smile~ Roseanne
Aren’t great-nephews the best! Ha leading you into temptation but I love the second angel idea for the Christmas QAL. Love the look of the Evening Star quilt – one day I might do one too yours is looking so good. Good job on the Grandma’s Kitchen block – like those colours.
Hi Kathryn,
I really have to get going on Evening Star. I have pieces ready for three more blocks to be sewn and 50 HSTs to iron and square up, but there is more to make. I thought I could easily have this top together this month. Hmm, we’ll see! ~smile~ Roseanne
How fun that you got to check everything off your to do list! I can’t believe October is almost over….you’ve reminded me to hop on it to get my October OMG finished. Your nephew is adorable; I bet you had a lot of fun spending time with him. 🙂
Hi Beth – I know, we only have TWO weeks from tomorrow to get our OMGs finished. Geez . . . I’d better stop typing and GO SEW. ~smile~ Roseanne
