Tutorial – Drops of Rainbow Quilt
During the 2018 New Quilt Blogger Blog Hop (NQBBH), I had the opportunity to meet Cindy and Sandy from Gray Barn Designs. Not only are they sisters who both quilt and have a wonderful introduction post if you have time to read it, they also design quilt patterns. They have a whole slew of free patterns on their website under the tab – can you guess? – Free Patterns. The pattern/tutorial I share with you today is Drops of Rainbow free pattern from Gray Barn Designs. There is a .pdf link to the free pattern in the link I’ve shared, as well as a bit of back story in the post.
Dripping Drops from a Rainbow
If you have learned nothing about us yet, please know that we love bright, primary colors. Especially all of those found in a rainbow! Here is a photo from Sandy’s website showing the gorgeous quilt. I saw all the lovely colors and knew that I had to read more about it, and then ask if I may share it here.
Boots on a Rainbow?
Before I even had read a word of Sandy’s post, I saw this picture. I thought to myself why are these rain boots on this pretty quilt? I would NEVER think of taking any quilt into the garden . . . but Sandy would. ~smile~
Sue and I sit on pieces of cardboard, plastic bags or anything else we can get our hands on when we have to play in the dirt. It is not something we enjoy, but maybe a pretty quilt might make it more enjoyable! I doubt that – just saying – but a quilt can make lots of things better, right?!
Drop Summary
Before you rush off to read Sandy’s post, here are a few more reasons why you should!
- The quilt uses 2.5″ squares which can easily equate to jelly rolls
- It is stash friendly – don’t you have a stack of 2.5″ squares to use up?
- This quilt finishes at a generous 67″ x 106″ – you can do a lot with that!
- You know you need a new project . . . right?! Or at least PIN it for a rainy day when you need to sew some sunshine and rainbows
If you make this, you have to let Sandy know – she would adore seeing your choices. Our Linky Parties can be found by clicking the link for more quilting fun or in the sidebar of our website – check out what our friends are up to. Like/follow us on our Facebook page and share your current project pictures. We would absolutely love to see them. ~smile~
I can see why the quilt stopped you in your tracks. What a beauty. Yes, as a matter of fact, I do have stacks of 2.5″ squares waiting for a project. Sadly, they are mostly dark ones, because I used the light ones in Calico Rose. But I can sort them again and find some that might work, then make sure I’m cutting my scraps more diligently. We’re not looking at a picture of my cutting table today! I got the sewing table sorted yesterday, but one thing at a time, right? Thanks for the link to this! Are you going to make one?
What a cheery quilt! Sure to brighten any dull day.
Oh, thanks for the link to this great quilt!! Definitely on my list now!!
I have this pattern on my someday list! I love it 🙂
Roseanne you did it again! This quilt is adorable. 😊❤️
Roseanne and Sue — Quilts are absolutely perfect for the garden — LOL — because they make everything better — including weeding! Thanks for featuring DOR!
