Tutorial – Little Boys’ Toys Doll Quilt
I’m still in a doll quilt making frame of mind, as we have just mailed off our first box of quilty goodness. Not only is it for a good cause, but it also allows me to practice my ruler and FMQ. Today I share a link to Lyn Brown‘s website for a mini quilt called Little Boys Toys doll quilt.
What I love most about this pattern is the sails and the one boat sailing in a different direction. The ingredients for this mini quilt aren’t all that daunting either.
Doll Quilt Fabric Requirements:
- 1 yard for the background/border
- 1/4 yard needed for the sails
- 1/2 yard for the boats and binding
- 1/4 yard for the sashing
Don’t you think this would also be adorable with different colored boats, using scraps from your stash? With a 5″ rectangle needed you could also use up those extra charm pack pieces you have lying around. I really love the background in the first picture – it reminds me of the boats floating in cloudy weather. The water is even a little churned up! You could be SO creative with this cute little design, don’t you think?! This finishes at 21″ x 26″ which is a nice, good sized doll quilt.

Hi Roseanne,
Too cute!
I love the patterns! You are right this would be great way to use some of my many many charm squares 🙂
Happy Sunday, Roseanne!
That is so cute!
Were you thinking of the show “As Time Goes By” with the pen and ink?
Hi Roseanne, this quilt has always been on my bucket list … perhaps it’ll become the baby boy quilt that I need late August or early September! Happy Quilting! 🙂
Hello Roseanne; This is a fabulous baby quilt for a boy! I am really glad that you shared it with us. Our family has not been having very many boys lately, but I do make quilts for Project Linus and am always on the look out for a fun quilt to make for a boy. I also try and create as many lap up to twin sized quilts for both genders because so often people forget that Project Linus is for newborns up to 18 years of age. Oh there I go thinking out loud again. LOL. Again thank you so much for sharing, I know I will use this pattern! Have a fantastic day!!
This would make an adorable baby quilt! So cute.
This is so cute. My mom used to make sailboat quilts for little boys; it was her go-to quilt pattern for them. This little cutie reminds me of her.
I love everything about both quilts, especially that one rogue sailor in the middle :o) Not sure I would have the patience to make all those little blocks but I am temped to try it using up my many left over charm squares! Thanks for giving me one more project to add to my never ending list!
