Weekly To-Do #40 and 300th Post!
This is our 40th edition of our weekly to-do list and our 300th post! I share this post on Beth’s Cooking Up Quilts website on Monday, and Tuesday’s linky party can be found on Christine’s Stitch All the Things website. ~smile~
To-Do Tuesday for the week January 8th through 14th:
- Finish the Dr. Seuss quilt and get it in the mail – √ done
- Start sewing strips for Regatta Quilt – √ done
- Grandma’s Kitchen blocks – √ done
The Dr. Seuss quilt was mailed to its new home in Texas on Monday the 8th! All washed and dried and snuggly. Keri allowed us to share a post about it last Friday, and she promises to send pictures. If you haven’t read Friday’s post with Keri’s backstory on Dr. Seuss you really need to. We are SO honored. Oh, and you know I’ll share those photos when I get them. ~smile~
I shared an update on the Regatta Quilt last week also. We are definitely taking our time on this quilt! We followed the instructions exactly for the first three rows (section A). Then we will do some MATH to figure out the lengths needed for the remaining strips so that we cut them to length instead of sewing 84″ together only to be cut off. Slight modification from the pattern. Here’s the first three rows being laid out for the correct spacing . . . and pinned for sewing:
I did manage to get them sewed together into one long 84″ section A. Then we discovered the two white strips sewn together were not long enough for the 42″ and 13″ piece on either side of the white square. How ODD. So, one side is going to be 41″ and 13″ on the first row. Darn it. Good thing the Regatta Quilt police aren’t reading this blog!
Grandma’s Kitchen QAL blocks have just been languishing in the sewing room. They weren’t even on the design wall for a bit (no room), and then Sue slapped them up for some inspiration. I saw on Facebook that someone had made a bed runner with 12 of the blocks and I thought, hmm. We could easily do that with the 5 blocks that are 10″ while the others are the 12″ size. Sew, pop on some sashing, layer, quilt and boom! One table runner and part of the GK blocks used.
That sounds so easy peasy doesn’t it? I did get the sashing strips all cut all by myself before Sue got home from work. It took me 15 minutes to cut 6 sashing strips. Why, you might wonder?! Well, I wanted them to be 2.5″ x 10.5″. One strip was 2.5″ in width while the other I cut 3″. ~smile~ Too bad I can’t read a ruler.
Designed a little mug rug for the upcoming blog hop being held February 5th – 8th. I thought I wanted to use my BIG stack of 2″ blocks. They are safely put away somewhere – so safe, no one can find or use them. ~smile~ So I moved on to 2.5″ squares instead. I pulled out a bunch of remnants to pick from, and Sue cut the squares for me. I’m so spoiled. ~grin~
January OMG Goal:
Our January OMG goal is to completely finish the Dr Seuss commission quilt this month. This is already finished – can you even believe it?! I should almost make another goal. I think I’ll get going on the Fluffer Nutter fabric challenge. Maybe I can get a great start on this during the last half of the month.
To-Do January 15th through 21st:
- Spend MLK Day with Dominic ~smile~
- Continue on the Regatta Quilt
- Sew the mug rug hopefully
- Continue working on the GK 10″ blocks
I wish you a week filled with many blessings!
