Apple Table Runner Update
We had a productive weekend spent by working a bit on the Runner Aways club September apple table runner. They had a fabric swap between the three members, and Sue brought home a nice assortment of squares for the border. I split them into two groups and then laid them out in a pleasing pattern to my eye:
Then it was just a matter of sewing the 14 squares on each side together and the 5 squares for each end, press (of course!), and then attach them to the middle portion of the table runner. Now Sue has a few numbers and letters to cut out to add on top of a few of the border pieces, and then we can layer it up with batting and a backing. I believe she has a dark red fabric with a small print for the backing. I imagine I can start on the layered up piece with its appliqué this next week or weekend.
My plan is to go around each apple with a black thread, zig-zag stitch. Then I’ll move to the stems and finally the leaves – probably all with black thread. I’m not sure what color the numbers or letters are but I’m guessing we will want them to stand out with the black thread outline too.
I will be happy to update you soon on the status of this project, and especially how we end up quilting this finished top. It is still a mystery to me!
What a cute tablerunner and doing the applique with black thread will really set it off!
Thanks Connie! I’m just hand stitching down the binding. I’ll share the completed runner as soon as I’m finished. 🙂
