Cardinal Red December Monthly Challenge Block
Cardinal red is the last monthly color chosen by Jen at Patterns By Jen and a fitting way to end 2020. Not to distract from this month’s fun but Jen did just announce the details and colors for 2021 (in the link shared) if you’d like to read all about it. I’ve always heard that cardinals represent our loved ones who have passed, and that belief often brings me great comfort. Now let’s get to this last spectacular block for 2020!
A Cardinal Red Color Block in the Making
First, you need to see the last of our selected fabrics for the year. A great representation of cardinal red, don’t you think? The collection of fabric we chose is called Crayola Kaleidoscope for Riley Blake.
Sue does all the prep work for me, which is a HUGE help and usually allows us to operate like a well-oiled machine. That is until we don’t! HAHA!
Don’t those individual pieces look quite a bit like wrapped candy? Taffy is specifically what it reminds me of. Before you know it, the block was laid out correctly for me to sew and I managed to do so without issue.
Cardinal Red December Block Finish
The black background fabric really has played nicely with all of this year’s colors but I think we are especially partial to this month’s red. The tone-on-tone red is just so yummy and perfect. It will be a pleasure to piece these blocks into a quilt top ready and waiting to be quilted!
Here are all 12 of our finished blocks. We need to determine the final layout but we have found a sashing fabric for it. With any luck, we’ll have a quilt top before the end of the year. We do plan on joining Jen for the 2021 monthly color block party.
