Consignment Project #1
It has been some exciting times on the Home Sewn By Us front. We sold our first two quilts on Etsy (can you even believe it!?!), we launched a Facebook page to host these posts (so I stopped boring all my friends and family), AND we received a special order/consignment request for a baby quilt.
The deadline is April 1st, which I think is very doable for us. Of course, this does have an impact on current project #1 (sorry Bets!) but I think my niece will understand the importance and need of a baby quilt for a shower. I wasn’t given the same consideration for my own great-great-nephew when I received a baby shower invitation in the mail and it was being held in TWO WEEKS. I mean really family – not one single person like my sister, or my above mentioned niece or anyone else who knew about the pregnancy could have just mentioned it to us?!! We cannot get a quilt together in TWO WEEKS people, so she was given a quilt top along with sincere apologizes to open at the shower. Oh well. It was completed for the baby’s arrival. ~smile~ I don’t think Brady cared either way.
I found the theme was Dr. Suess. Hmm. Is there fabric out there for Dr. Suess? I didn’t know, but to the internet I went to see what was available. Well, who knew?! There are several different yardage options and some panels featuring either his books or familiar illustrations. What exactly was the nursery going to be focused on? My friend checked with her sister, the grandmother-to-be, and we worked out a plan from the available options. I was starting to get excited about this – ooh, new fabrics to order and a new and exciting project to design and put together. We are total fabric nerds that way.
I ordered the fabric, and we took a little trip to Phoenix. With any luck, the package would be waiting for us when we got back but it wasn’t. Why is it when you are looking forward to jumping into something new, it takes forever it to be shipped/delivered? Any other time we would have had the fabric in two days . . . just saying. It arrived this past week in a cute little box – because of course part of the needed fabric was backordered. Really?! HAHA – that truly is our luck but it is the backing so we have enough to get started. We can start cutting and sewing the fabric, and I will share more in just a bit. After all, Dr. Suess’ birthday is coming up and what better way to celebrate than to share pictures of a nearing-completion baby quilt? Stay tuned . . . ~smile~
