Denim – to Save or Not to Save?
We have saved old, still-in-good-shape jeans forever. Do you do that too? We did make a throw for my niece out of denim squares on one side and flannel on the other. We laid out all the squares on the living room floor, moved them around as we thought best – you can’t have too many of the same tint in one area or row! The header shows a portion of the rows.
I’m not much of a ‘random’ person. In theory, it sounds wonderful but I cannot just sew two of the same color together or even put two of the same/similar color too close together. It may randomly happen but not if I’m at the sewing machine. They get ‘randomly’ changed – right away!
At least when we made the throw we didn’t go out and buy denim! We used our stash. Of course, we had to buy the flannel and it seems that unless you go with baby-ish colors there isn’t a huge selection. My niece wanted blue and yellow . . . so she got pale versions with a little green thrown in for variety. I think she was happy with the outcome, but I thought it was very heavy. The washing and drying process made it nice and fluffy though, and the dryer screen caught a lot of lint.
We still have a bin of jeans that we have saved. Are we ever going to make something out of them?? I fancy a nice tote that would wear like iron – great for grocery shopping and environmentally friendly on so many fronts – and maybe a throw that would be great for picnics or concerts in the park. Will they ever happen? Should we hang on to the jeans? I only have until mid-April to decide . . . when Sue starts cleaning out the garage on me. 🙁
