Grandma’s Kitchen – Cooking Right Along
Pat Sloan is hosting a quilt along and it is the first one we joined this year. It’s called Grandma’s Kitchen (GK) and you can find all the blocks if you click on the link. She is releasing 25 blocks for this quilt along, and we have just finished block #15. The sixteenth block was released on Wednesday but we haven’t started it yet. Here is a little recap of our blocks and how they are coordinating:
GK Block #1 – The Kitchen Table and #2 – Sticky Buns
My favorite block is still #1 and I may add it to my own quilt
GK Block #3 – Key Holder and #4 – Half a Modern (Kitchen)
I enjoy both of these blocks, especially the Half a Modern block.
GK Block #5 – Glasses and Cups and #6 – Wash Day
The Wash Day block is the first 10″ block. I can see the wringer washer in this block!
GK Block #7 – oh my Stars and #8 – Grandma’s Apron
The Grandma’s Apron block is another 10″ block, and the first appliquéd one.
GK Block #9 – the Kitchen Window and #10 – Recipe Box
We plan to add something in the kitchen windows when we find out the layout or begin quilting it. It looks a little bare right now!
GK #11 Peppermint Swirl and #12 Kitchen Door
Peppermint Swirl is another 10″ block; there have been 3 released so far. My mom always had peppermint and butterscotch candies nearby.
GK #13 Sunday Dinner and #14 Salt and Pepper
I don’t really see how either of these blocks got their names but I do like them.
GK #15 Game Show and Soaps
My sister was a huge lover of soaps. I used to watch All My Children with her while in high school. My mom never missed Wheel of Fortune if she could help it, unless it was to play bingo. ~smile~
This quilt along has taught me a lot, especially about the half square triangle. They are fairly easy to make and so darn versatile. They’ve been used in ten of the blocks and I love how they make pinwheels. Pat said she would be releasing the layout soon. It isn’t too late to get each of these blocks if you would like to join in yourself! Download the instructions for the blocks now if you are interested.
