Happy Birthday Dr. Suess
I mentioned just a few days ago that we are working on our first consignment project. At least the first one since we’ve started our Etsy shop, blog and Facebook page. I didn’t realize that Dr. Suess’ birthday was just a few short days after starting the project, so the pictures will not reflect the finished quilt.
First I had to iron the panels so that Sue could cut them apart easily. You know I love to iron, so that is fun to me. I like looking at each block as I iron to think about how it will look with the navy border. We then had to cut out each panel piece and lay them out in a pleasing manner. We used our island since our design wall was busy with project #1 and #400 (Betsy’s quilt and the ABC sampler). No worries though as I was going to get to work on it promptly.
Then we made a few rookie mistakes by overthinking and depending on the fabric company to accurately represent the size of the blocks. No, they are not 8 x 10 as promised but we didn’t take the time to measure them either. What?! Shame on us. So, after cutting more than a few border strips that did not fit we got it right:
I think the navy looks great. I really pulls out the words on this particular block, and it will just frame each block nicely to enhance them all. Since it for a baby boy, the blue family was an obvious choice and who doesn’t like navy?!
I will have to post the finished project before it makes its way to Pennsylvania for its permanent home. Maybe we’ll even be lucky enough to have a picture of the baby boy wrapped up in our love. I don’t know – stay tuned! ~smile~
Happy Birthday Dr. Suess!
