I Love Thursday #124 So Many Blessings
This is the 124th post of things we love for the week. We usually post these loves each Thursday along with LeeAnna on her blog at Not Afraid of Color. This week, I’m posting it one day early because tomorrow we are hosting the TGIFF (Thank Goodness it’s Finished Friday) linky party. Several additional friends also share on a weekly basis – be sure to check them out. You will surely find something to inspire you.
Love #1
Fat Tuesday – Ash Wednesday! Today is Ash Wednesday but yesterday was Fat Tuesday. Did you indulge in anything decadent and yummy? I did. A coworker who often brings in treats made by his wife didn’t disappoint. Stuffed with two different flavored jellies, here is the homemade-Paczki (pronounced pooch-key) I enjoyed with apricot jelly. Fried in peanut oil and sprinkled lightly with powdered sugar, it was just as yummy as it looks. I’m not trying to make you jealous . . . really! I don’t have any Polish decedents but I sure do enjoy this goody that is famous in Chicago and Milwaukee.
Love #2
Sit-a-spell lounger. My school district is trying out some new classroom dynamics, including this modern-looking lounger. I just HAD to snap a photo of it since it is just begging to be a quilt pattern. It is also quite comfortable!
Love #3
George Bernard Shaw quote! Shaw says, “This is the true joy in life, being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one. Being a force of Nature instead of a feverish little clod of ailments and grievances, complaining the world will not devote itself to making you happy. I am of the opinion that my life belongs to the whole community and as long as I live, it is my privilege to do for it whatever I can.”
My favorite line is this: “I want to be thoroughly used up when I die, for the harder I work, the more I live. I rejoice in life for its own sake. Life is no brief candle to me. It is sort of a splendid torch, which I’ve got hold of for the moment, and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it on to future generations.”
Love #4
Clark Baby Quilt again! All the details about this (Cubs) Clark Jr. baby quilt were shared earlier this month. However, we did not have a picture of the quilt in the crib along with the softest-ever-elephant stuffed animal. Everything’s all set for the new baby-to-be due to arrive in less than four weeks!
Love #5
Dominic is the star of this week’s photo recap, not that Addison isn’t doing fun things too. Dominic is now eating at the family table like the big boy he is. Apparently, when he gets too hungry, he just skips using his hands and eats directly from the bowl. Gamma has taught Dominic well and he enjoys cleaning, especially his easel.
Addison was quite busy playing while sitting in Dominic’s chair at the play table. He shared his dislike while patiently waiting for her to move. Later in the day the both colored on the easel side-by-side. Finally, stomping in some ice puddles and walking on the diminishing snow in his boots. Not to worry, those snow piles are being replenished.
Join us each week for our linky party called To-Do Tuesday! Our other Linky Parties can be found by clicking the link above or along the sidebar on our website for more quilting fun – check out what our friends are up to. Like/follow us on our Facebook page and you can share your photos of what you’re working on. We would love to see them!
Your favorite line of Shaw’s could have been about Mama. 🙂 I’ve been learning a lot about paczki today as I hop around the blog world. I’ve only eaten jelly doughnuts and am now curious to taste a paczki.
enjoying my Addison and Dominic fix! Great words to live by! You did a wonderful job on that baby quilt! Wow! Have a wonderful week!
I enjoyed reading Love #3…inspiring words. That treat looks so tasty…pancakes are common here for that day. Beautiful photos of the kiddies as always.
Paczkis seem to be popular today! I had never heard of them before but they sure look good! Love the pattern on the lounger. It definitely looks like a quilt! Love the Cubs quilt! The littles are so adorable! Love seeing their pictures!
That paczki really does look delicious – and homemade probably really made it good! The lounger for the classroom is really interesting. There have been lots of innovations in schools in recent years about how kids needing more movement and seating choices, and that’s a good thing! Love seeing the baby quilt already for baby! Looks like that easel is a great thing for both kids!
We are a sugar free household, but I am in the middle of making a triple chocolate sugar free mousse cake for book club tonight!
I’ve seen a lot of Paczkis lately (but haven’t had one). They look delicious. Love the lounger.
That quote is wonderful!! I am posting that on my blog so I see it every day. Love the littles!
Good morning Roseanne! We enjoyed a little sugar for breakfast on Fat Tuesday also..we’ve had family in from Colorado for the past 10 days — thankfully the weather was beautiful and was able to enjoy some pastries for breakfast by the Tampa Bay. You’re right the lounger is begging to be a quilt pattern! The cubs quilt and teddy bear are quite enticing…Dominic and Addison as always bring a smile to my face! Enjoy your day my friend ♥♥
Oh Hubby is so jealous of your Paczki. He dad would wait in line on Fat Tuesday at the New Palace Bakery in Hamtramck, MI. Polish town with great food. The only ones that had here were Raspberry at the grocery store. He asked a few local bakeries if they would have them and they all looked at him like deer in the headlights.
Awesome quote from Shaw. Cute lounger, I have seen mention of them lately. As always the littles are adorable. How nice that Dominick likes to help clean. They grow up much too fast.
Roseanne – we used to live in Cleveland, and everyone brought Paczkis to work on Fat Tuesday. Can’t find them here! Boohoohoo. Love the quote, especially the image of the torch being passed on to future generations!
Pastries, finished crib, just waiting for baby and sweet kids playing! Can life get any better? 😎 Carol
I second Laura’s comment –
but add to that: drooling with envy on the Packzi!
years ago I lived in Milwaukee WI and one thing I ( French Canadian by ancestry ) loved was all the bakery! I don’t think you can find bakery like this anywhere else!! I totally forgot about Fat Tuesday and I would have loved that bakery – but I wouldn’t have been able to find anything like it here in Arkansas anyway
For a minute there, I thought I had my days wrong (panic) – until I read your first paragraph. 🙂 Oh my, that pastry looks delicious – I haven’t had breakfast yet, could ya send one over? The littles are darling as usual, and the Cubs quilt looks grand with that cuddly ellie!
Wonderful quotes from Shaw, Roseanne! 🙂
Whoa bonus! Sugar in the morning on Ash Wednesday! Love that lounger, but love the littles more…now that’s how to get over mid week…
