I Love Thursday #16 – mid-January
This is our #16 list of our loves for the week. How can it be the middle of January already? LeeAnna blogs at Not Afraid of Color and shares her ‘likes’ every Thursday. Several of our friends also share on a weekly basis – check them out!
Love #1
January thaws! We had a lengthy chilly period followed by a recent January thaw. I usually don’t let the weather bother me as there is nothing one can do about it anyway. Nightly, I watch the weather – I know, I don’t know why – and then right before I hop in the car at 4:55 a.m. I like to know if there is dense fog, or a foot of snow on the way. Call me crazy, because those weathermen are almost always WRONG. Who has a job that you can be incorrect or mistaken most of the time AND you keep the job?!! Anyway, it sure was amazing to have 20, 30 and even 40 degree days for a short time.
Love #2
A clean car! I noticed that dirt kind of creeps up on you. One minute your car is reasonably clean – you can see out the windows – you don’t get covered in a white dust if you brush against it. And then wham – the car is filthy. For those of you who do not enjoy the four seasons or winter, you have no idea how the road salt sprays on a car. While I am thankful for the road salt – nothing is worse than driving on ice – it sure does a number on visibility from windows. A sparkling clean car is a rarity in winter, and I find myself saying ‘lucky duck’ to those who have one. HAHA! My piggy car is a nice black but in winter it is gray at best or dirty white at its worst.
Love #3
Federal holidays! At my previous employers we didn’t have off for MLK Day or many Federal holidays. This week I had off on Monday AND, best of all, got to spend time with Dominic. Not just time but all day! I was pooped and glad to rest up at work on Tuesday, but I relish every moment with that baby.
Love #4
Diversions! I usually get home from work after spending the day thinking about what I can sew when I get home. How much time will I have, what else do I HAVE to get done that evening, etc. But lately I just haven’t felt like sewing. What?!?! You love to spend any extra moments doing that. What’s going on? The library has been stressing me out, sending me four books all at one time that have to be read in three weeks. Eek! My sweet baby nephew has been calling out my name (only I can hear it!) to spend time with him . . . so of course I do. Who could look at this face and say no?! So, yes indeed I love diversions. Oh, and the latest book I started is The People vs. Alex Cross by James Patterson. SO good with a secondary storyline that I am wondering why they introduced – are they related??
Love #5
Lest you think D is always in a good mood, here is the proof that he is not always:
GG was asked to watch D for a few hours last week. He got dressed in all of his Mickey regalia in honor of going there. (They got him VERY interested in the Mickey Clubhouse so these clothes are appropriate.) He expects to be the center of attention, and we are pretty much happy to oblige. That is reflected in the picture on the right – full attention being given. The picture on the left shows how he feels when he is put down on his quilt when GG has to leave the room. What?! Where is everyone and why have they deserted me?! Savage I say!
Love #6
Football! I really love watching football. Let’s make this very clear – watching, NOT playing. So, I’ve been in a little funk lately because the Packers had an awful season. Why does a whole team revolve around ONE player?! Anyway – this is supposed to be positive – the Vikings are still in the game. They are representing the NFC North, so I’m rooting for them. Did you know they have never won a Super Bowl?? In spite of their fabulous quarterback back in the day, Daunte Culpepper and running back Randy Moss. WOW – I was shocked to hear that. So, go Vikings go! Those words are SO hard for me to type – OMG – but I do want them to go all the way. Football is back this Sunday with only two games, and then only the Super Bowl to go. So I will be enjoying the heck out of both games (boo NE).
Mini #7
Okay – just scrolling back up to save this post, I see the pictures. I love that baby. He just brings a huge smile to my face.
That’s it for this week! I had a few more to share but my mind is a sieve and unless I write them down immediately, they are gone. Sorry! Six is plenty anyway – you can’t count that last one. I hope your week is filled with many blessings. Happy Thursday!

Any warm days in winter are a blessing in Wisconsin. Especially this year. I enjoyed reading about your favorites. 🙂
Hi Cindy,
Thank you! Next week I am mentioning you and your website. I just typed it while I remembered – now you’ll have to wonder why for a whole week. ~smile~ Roseanne
You stinker! 🙂 I will be sitting on pins and needles all week. LOL 😂 By the way, I finished the Regatta quilt top. It’s waiting to be quilted. I hope to get a post typed in the next week or so. 🙂
WOWEE – maybe I’ll be able to add your photo to my update. I have the post written – I haven’t scheduled it yet. ~smile~ Roseanne P.S. Just teasing a little – of course I’m not saying anything you would disapprove of!
I will see what I can do. 🙂
A clean car… something I only dream of. I’ve been out of the loop on football this year, but it seems to have been a good playoff season!
HAHAHAHA – I know, right?! Clean cars . . . yup mine is still a little piggy. I am so thrilled when I use the washer and I can actually see out the front window. It’s the little things. ~smile~ Roseanne
Seeing Dominic makes me smile too! I hope you get your sewing mojo back soon! That quilt Dominic is on is adorable! Have a great day!
Good Morning!
Well, I picked up some fabric just for Dominic so I’d better get busy making something! Have a fabulously happy Friday! ~smile~ Roseanne
I was going to say, I love football, too, as background noise for sewing! Then I saw that you replied that same thing to someone else! I am hooked on Michael Bennett books, thanks to you, Roseanne! I have 2 from the library right now. Enjoy that little Dominic – he is sure cute!
Hi Diann,
So glad you are enjoying MB! It’s almost sad to get all caught up, ins’t it?! You’ll have to try the Alex Cross character next – lots of those to read and they are GOOD. ~smile~ Roseanne
I don’t watch sports other than ice skating and curling! I asked someone here the other day if I must watch bronco’s if I live here!! They said no but it helps!
Hi LeeAnna,
Yes, I would imagine you should watch the Broncos . . . but only if you like football! HAHA! There are oodles of people who are like-minded with you, and who cares anyway – it’s only a game! ~smile~ Roseanne
So happy your days are full of wonderful things like reading and football and epecially that sweet little child. ( Yes, like baseball, football seems to have a lot of breaks; btw, hockey is not like that so not as good to stitch to, lol.)
I panic a bit too when the library lets me know the book I wanted coincides with two others.
Hi Jocelyn,
I am in a panic over these books! HAHA – that is just silly though. Read as far as you can, let someone else enjoy them and request them again. Geez – it is not worth panicking about. I love to watch hockey! In person and on TV, but in person you HAVE to watch for that puck. I almost got smacked once . . . too close for comfort. ~smile~ Roseanne
OK, I am not a football fan, but still happy about the Vikings this year and rooting for them. So I am chuckling when reading your post!
Hi Vicki,
You should be rooting for them! Not that it’s a hard and fast rule, but come on. They deserve to go and win if they are the best team this year . . . and I hope they are. ~smile~ Roseanne
What a fun post to read 🙂 That little guy is sure a cutie! I’m not a football fan, but I do appreciate how much you have to muster up to support the Vikes. While everyone else is watching the game and cheering them on, I’ll be in my quilt room, listening to Bob Dylan and stitching away, with purple fabric (maybe). 🙂
Hi Wendy,
Perhaps I forgot to mention that I will be sewing and writing and eating and anything else I can think of DURING the games. Football is a great background noise option for me – I only have to look up when the announcers get excited, and then there is always the replay! ~smile~ Roseanne
We do watch the highlights. Well, my hubby does!
What a sweet baby!
Hi Nanette,
Thanks! I sure think so. ~smile~ Roseanne
