I Love Thursday #166 Abounding Blessings
This is the 166th post of things we love for the week. The first Thursday post of the New Year. We post these loves each Thursday along with LeeAnna on her blog at Not Afraid of Color. Several additional friends also share on a weekly basis – be sure to check them out. You will surely find something to inspire you.

Love #1
Plastic collection! A local small town’s Lions Club collected over 10,000# of plastics over the last 20 months. All those plastics are going to be made into 20 park benches by a recycling company named Trex. We do a similar collection in my school district so I love seeing good ideas like this highlighted. Here’s a peek at the plastics and a sample of the benches they will be ordering.
Love #2
Bestie bests! I captured these two pictures of my bestie, Sue, during the Christmas break. The first one is of her laying on the floor looking in the “blue” fabric drawer (which includes purple and green, it seems). A rather large piece of fabric fell behind the drawer so it would no longer close. There didn’t seem a way to get at that fabric . . . but she figured it out. She made a sneak attack from the side and had it out in minutes! The second picture is her wearing a nifty headband that a coworker of mine made. She very nicely made one for each of us. These will keep our ears warm when we’re out shoveling!
Love #3
Shelf liner! I think that’s what this product is called, although I’ve never actually used it as such. It is a very useful though – it keeps our I-Pass transponder in one place on the dash rather than floating about. It also keeps my sewing machine pedal mostly in one spot. I saw a new-to-me use on a Facebook quilting group – use it in place of quilting gloves.

Have any of you ever heard of this or tried it? I find it intriguing as it would be nice to not have to constantly remove gloves while quilting.
Love #4
Colt received a really nifty Christmas gift and he is really enjoying it. It a ball tunnel that he is able to crawl through . . . and at the end, he gets to play with those elusive balls. Daddy has been working with him already and he has a pretty good arm! Dominic loves, loves, LOVES to help clean up especially when it doesn’t involve picking up toys. Give him a Swiffer-type mop and he is all in!
Both Addison and Dominic are tremendous helpers when cleaning out a closet. Can’t you just hear the giggles that were ongoing while the closet was cleaned?! Addison’s collection of babies continues to grow and she has them with her at ALL times. It seems she can handle ten babies easily – we wonder what her future holds?! Both Dominic and Addison enjoyed Blue’s Clues on their bellies on Auntie Sue’s bed. Sue and I were each a bookend, blocking them from falling off the sides with our feet. And finally, don’t they all look angelic watching Olaf’s Adventure quite avidly?!

Roseanne – what a FANTASTIC way to keep plastics out of the garbage AND put them to good use! Always enjoy the pictures of the kids. We had something like that tunnel when our kids were little – it became many things like a space ship, a tent in the forest … Kids and their imaginations!
Keeping the pedal from traveling is a good thing. I may have to get me some of that.
Besties are a joy in our lives for sure. Have a great week!
Colt’s expressions crack me up…especially at the last shot there…those 3 sure do make my week! I found 1 son enough work, 10 children, I don’t know Addison! And Dominic can come Swifter here anytime! What a blessing to have those 3 near… And I tend to use the shelf liner to open bottles I can’t crack open with my bare hand. I didn’t think about using it for gloves on a quilt…but I’m deathly afraid of doing my own quilting anyway. I know my limits.
That shelf lining stuff is so good for so many things!! I like my gloves, but that’s a great idea for quilting.
Hi Roseanne,
The recycled plastic benches are a fantastic idea!!!
Love the pic of Sue … so happy!
the littles are cute, as always!
I’ve used the shelf liner thing for quilting … it’s nice in the summer when it’s too hot to wear gloves to quilt … but I tend to frequently loose the squares I have for quilting. Luckily, they’ve never been sewn into the back of a quilt … yet!
Happy Quilting! 🙂
Isn’t that neat – making plastic into park benches?! Love that! Looks like Sue did a great job getting that piece of fabric out of the way. Hope she didn’t mind you snapping that picture of her, lol! I love the shelf liner idea for quilting – I’ve used that stuff, but not that way. Cute Colt in his tunnel! What fun! And babies and swiffering – the best!
Shelf lines is awesome, “women’s answer to duct tape”. The littles are so sweet, Love the ball tunnel. Look how fabulous Sue is in getting stuff worked out! Great likes as usual. 10 Babies….OMG I hope she doesn’t decide to be the mother of decuplets….
Another great list Roseanne filled with so much love. That park bench is wonderful! The shelf liner does work if you aren’t going too fast. I admit to sewing it in to my seam once. 🥴
Must try shelf liner idea… thank you. May I ask if making a tie quilt what batting you could suggest. thank you for any suggestions and for great idea to try. I’m new to “trying” to quilt .. thank you again.
Lots of great loves this week. I like that bench idea, too. Imagine, they could order 9 benches! Colt looks adorable in the tunnel. I have used a lot of that shelf liner to line shelves in the 5th wheel so things wouldn’t move around while traveling, but I’ve never used it for other things. That’s a good idea. I don’t quilt on my small machines, but if I did, I’d jump on that. Sue sounds like a problem solver!
thank you for standing strong today and sharing your list
I LVOE that recycled bench idea! Holy moly, though, 10,000#??? Where on earth did they store it all? And that picture of Addison with here babies and her hair all combed and grown up looking! A sign of things to come perhaps? Happy Thursday friend – oh and it is so nice to see pictures of Sue!
Love the shelf liner tip, and will look forward to your assessment. Sue looks great in the headband! and yes, it will keep your ears warm…very important. Love the kiddos – tunnels and Swiffers!
Shelf liner is a very handy tool!! I use it for jar openers! I’ve never used it for quilting on the domestic, but sounds like a good plan to try next time I quilt a small project. Great pics of the little loves!
Here’s another use for shelf liner – cut a small piece about 2″ square. Place it between your block and your ruler when squaring. It holds the ruler stable so it doesn’t shift when you cut. I picked up that tidbit in a quilt class a few years ago. Hadn’t thought to use it for free motion, but I’ll bet it would work. Nice to see the littles – I like that quilt in the background of the Olaf photo 🙂
What adorable faces! I love Colt in his tunnel.
I actually use that shelf liner fabric (or whatever it is) to open tough jars lids. Seeing the kids today made my day, especially that angelic shot!!! Hugs!
I have never actually used shelf liner as shelf liner. It has many other uses!
Love the shelf liner ideas! Lol on the 10 babies that Addison has. 😀
I have heard of using shelf liner instead of gloves, but haven’t tried it. I’ll wait for your assessment. 🙂
Love the recycled plastic bench idea!
