Love Quilt Tutorial – KD Spain & Moda
Our good friend, Rosalie, recently made a quilt top that she is calling a medallion. The original tutorial by Kate D Spain for Moda Fabrics is called Love Quilt. This utilizes Kate’s fabric line called Horizon, which was inspired by sea glass. You can certainly see that inspiration in this pictures of her quilt:
Click the link provided above to find the tutorial. It is about midway down the page. The size of the quilt is 72″ x 72″. Here is a closeup of a few quilt blocks:
This pattern calls for a layer cake, or 42 – 10″ blocks, along with 2 2/3 yards of background fabric. That’s it! Make 36 half-square triangles (HSTs) and follow the layout provided in the tutorial. Handily enough, the pattern also gives you directions for a smaller quilt using a charm pack and another pattern for a 12″ square mini quilt.
Love Quilt Modification
Rosalie made the same quilt top, as I mentioned earlier. She chose a different color palate:
She chose batiks as her fabric. One of the cool things about batiks is that squares cut from the same fabric may look totally different. Batiks sometimes remind me of tie-dyed fabrics. Rosalie is going to add a batik border to increase the size of the finished quilt. This really reminds me of stained glass. I think she did a fabulous job! Don’t you??! I look forward to seeing how she quilts this. This may need to go on our to-be-made-soon list, although I have an issue with square quilts. I mentally think they need to be rectangles. Just my hangup!
Is this a quilt pattern that you have made already? Inspired to make now/soon?
