Nancy’s Notions, Beaver Dam, Wisconsin
Saturday morning we headed out with a friend to Beaver Dam, Wisconsin for a BIG sale at Nancy’s Notions. You may be familiar with Nancy from her television show called “Sewing with Nancy.” We headed out just after 6:00 a.m. and arrived just before they opened the doors to the warehouse.
Big Sale ~smile~
We have visited before but only in the retail store. This time they had most of the warehouse open and set up for the sale. Their entire retail store was cleared of merchandise except for sewing machines. I came this close || to buying a new Baby Lock mid-arm machine – I only hesitated because I had no plan to buy one and quite honestly the salesperson did a terrible job of selling the machine. The price they offered was beyond great . . . and I still wonder if I should have just bought it!
We were lucky enough to get the rotating Olfa cutting mat (yay!) as well as a new (to me anyway) product called Terial Magic. I met the lady that invented Terial Magic, and she told me that she had issues inhaling the fumes from iron-on stabilizers. This is a spray-on product that saturates the fabric threads and turns fabric into a fray free, paper like material. It is easy to use: 1) spray to saturate fabric, 2) dry until damp, and 3) iron to set. My plan is to use it for a t-shirt quilt instead of putting the stabilizer on the back of each piece. The 24oz bottle is appropriate for about 4 yards of fabric and the product can be left in or washed out when the quilt project is complete. The t-shirt fabric was nice and soft again from the sample I was shown.
Fat Quarter Sale
Sue also picked out 20 fat quarters so they were priced at $1.25 each! I picked up Pat Sloan’s “Teach Me to Machine Quilt” book along with “Charming Chalkboard Projects” by Nancy Zieman. We were each given a grab bag as we entered the warehouse. What they did not make clear was that there was a $10 charge for the grab bag. I probably would not have purchased it . . . oh well.
It was fun and we will probably return next year. The best part was the time spent with good friends! ~smile~
