Our first post :)
Our first post to the blog! We thank you for joining us here and hope you find it interesting enough to stick around. We will discuss many different topics about quilting and all home sewn items and crafts.
I love to take a pattern and tweak it with quick-sew shortcuts. I would say my inspiration was Eleanor Burns and her Quilt in a Day books and patterns. I loved the idea of sewing strips together, cutting them apart and then sewing them back together to complete a quilt top. We make a lot of nine-patch squares and strip sewing makes that so much quicker.
Another thing I am keen on is chain stitching. As I am stitching the quilt top together I always have at least two rows going at once. I like to have little extra projects next to my machine also to push thru/sew when I get to the end of a row. Right now my ‘extra project’ are white-on-white nine patch squares – two different white fabrics with a different pattern on them in white. I need to make around 120 of them, so they are my go-to when I have to wait for Sue to cut something or I have a few minutes to waste.
