Our Sewing Room – Part 2
The walls in our sewing room are a pale yellow. We chose this color for the second time – the first was in the second story house (a.k.a. the sweatshop) and it is a warm, friendly color. On a nice sunny morning it isn’t too bright, and on a gray January afternoon it isn’t too dark. We have a bunch of Disney princesses photos framed and hung on the wall – mostly from old calendars, but a few of them are cross-stitched pieces. Overall, the room makes me happy!
We designed the house, the room and specifically the closet to house lots of craft items. We did not take into account all the fabric we would eventually hoard collect. We have struggled with finding the right balance of storage for fabric yet being able to find it when needed. About a year ago we went to the furniture store and selected/purchased some dressers. They all match! Not that there was anything wrong with our garage sale/hand-me-down previous furniture other than it was falling apart and it didn’t really meet our needs.
We have a TV that is almost always on (whenever I’m sewing it is!) but it has to be something mindless or nothing that has to be actually watched. Old Doris Day movies are just the best – don’t you think?! – but they are rarely on and they really need to be enjoyed. Some of our favorites are Matlock, Diagnosis Murder, Walker Texas Ranger and anything HGTV.
A comfy chair, ottoman and swing-arm lamp complete the sewing room. Of course, there is also an ironing board often set up but its actual home is in the closet (sounds good doesn’t it?!).
