Play Ball is Fun and Finished
The Play Ball baby quilt is now finished and ready for Dominic. It has been washed and dried and is all quilty soft. We had so much fun getting the quilt ready for him. We tried something a little different for quilting this quilt. I can’t wait to get a picture of him on it – soon!
Play Ball Quilting Fun
For this quilt we first started on the embroidery machine, sewing circles in all the white fabric squares. There are 31 of them . . . Sue can tell you that because she counted down as she got each circle finished. I played around with stitches on Ellie and found this one that sort of resembles the lacing on a baseball. Once Sue handed off the quilt top to me, I freehanded the stitching to make it look realistic. Then we added a machine quilted “X” in each patterned square to make Xs and Os – or hugs and kisses. The added benefit to this is the pattern on the back of the quilt:
Each baseball is surrounded with a diamond, just like a baseball diamond. It couldn’t have worked out better. Isn’t this a cute background fabric? We found this fabric on our last road trip with Carol to The Stitchery in Delevan, Wisconsin. It looks like friendly little planes and puffy white clouds.
Play Ball Fun For DJ
After the quilt was washed, I took it outside to get a few photos. The one above is in the front of the house, in amongst the rose bushes and the last days of impatiens. I took one more outside for a closeup of the Xs and Os. The laser light was used for making these nice straight lines – it works SO well:
I can’t wait to wrap him up in this for some good snuggles. Hmm, what’s up next for Dominic? Maybe a playmat for Hot Wheels – I have a bit of time before he’ll be interested in those. Actually, he needs some help with a Halloween costume so I’ll be sewing that soon. ~smile~
