It’s a Queen Size Quilt Kind of Year
When it rains it pours around these parts, at least as far as requests for queen size quilts go. We have made five this year! One request was actually made last year and we started on it. But I hated the pattern; it was a chore to sew it. So we aborted that project, abandoned the fabric (not really!) and started over.
Queen Size Quilt #1 – May 2017
My niece, Betsy, asked for a replacement quilt. We had made her a quilt in purple for her as a housewarming present in 2003. That quilt was well-loved and well-used, and it was time for a newer model. So we made her this quilt using the Simply Woven pattern. Here she is with it and on her bed:
Queen Size Quilt #2 – June 2017
Sue’s niece, Andrea, and her husband, Chris, asked for a quilt in grays and dark blue. We chose the Jimmy John pattern for their quilt. Gray ombre and a jellyroll of shades of blue were used in their quilt. Here they are with the quilt and it on their bed:
Queen Size Quilt #3 – July 2017
Andrea’s brother, William was very specific in his request for his queen size quilt. He sent us a picture of Clark, the Cubs mascot. Would we please make him a quilt incorporating Clark? Well, of course we would! Here is William with the quilt and it on his bed:
Queen Size Quilt #4 – August 2017
Next came John and his very easy request – would we make him a quilt in blue? Sure, and we know just the pattern that we wanted to try. Enter the Pinwheel Rail Fence pattern and here is the finished result. John with his quilt and it on his bed:
We found out that John only uses only the quilt to cover with at night – no sheet. Therefore, he washes it often . . . so we need to start on another one for him sooner than later. Now we’ll be on the lookout for a new pattern to try! Look how nice those blue colors show up for John’s photo – and I struggled with that all along!!
Queen Size Quilt #5 – August 2017
Last but not least is Tom and Jeanette’s animal quilt. These are Sue’s parents, and it was a pleasure to make this quilt for them. This replaces the first quilt we made for them which was a Trip Around the World. Here they are with their new quilt, and it on their bed:
This was one picture he didn’t mind posing for!
I hope they all feel the love that was stitched into every inch of their quilts. We have one more request for a queen size quilt from Sue’s sister, Janice. We don’t have any specifics yet, like color or pattern but she has an idea in her mind . . . so stay tuned. I think it’s about time we make one from my bed, too. Now to narrow down a pattern and a color palette. LOL
