Redwork Beauty and the Beast
When Beauty and the Beast came out in 1991, we took our niece, Andrea, to see it. When the new version came out in 2017, she and her husband took us to see it. Opening weekend both times, of course. How cute is that?!!
Redwork
Owning a cross stitch and framing store during that time, by bestie fell in love with all things B&B. She started collecting B&B items, and especially all things Belle. We decided that we NEEDED to create a quilt with redwork and Belle, and this is what we came up with. We used one of her coloring books and a light box, and traced all the designs on muslin. Then we started cross stitching them with the redwork outline stitch, and added a lightweight interfacing on the back as each square was completed. Fast forward to 2017, and I recalled that this quilt top has never been completed beyond this stage:
There are seven rows of five squares surrounded by a red floral/paisley sashing. The heading picture is a close-up of a pillowcase/envelope that I made to go with the quilt top. At this point, this quilt top should definitely move from the UFO – unfinished object – to being quilted and useable. Don’t you think?! Here are a few of our favorite scenes from the original movie that show some of the details.
Redwork close-ups:

Beast and Belle reading (and a partial of them drinking their soup)

Beast giving Belle the library ~smile~

Belle trying to save the Beast, and their first dance

Beast turning gentle enough to feed the birds
Now the debate is how should it be quilted? Any opinions or advice? What do you think about adding some borders to make it a bit wider/more useable? We would love to hear from you! And we would love to have you add your email address to ensure you hear how this turns out . . . ~smile~ Thanks!
I’m linking up with Show Off Saturday today and Design Wall. ~smile~
FYI – Since Judy Laquidara is no longer doing “Design Wall Mondays”, I talked to her and got permission to continue Design Wall Mondays at my blog: http://smallquiltsanddollquilts.blogspot.com/
I hope to see your posts on future Mondays, Judy Hansen
Hi Judy! Thank you for the heads up. I will update my link and grab your button if you have one. I appreciate it very much. ~smile~

This is such a cute idea and so much work. It looks delightful. How to quilt it is a real dilemma. I’d be tempted to tie it at the corners and just enjoy it.
Hi Robin! That may be the easiest and best way to quilt it. It really has me stymied – I didn’t even consider that when we made it. HAHA
My granddaughter recently went to Disney World in Orlando and saw all the princesses, of course, her most favorite was Belle. Do you know where I could purchase this pattern? She turns 5 in July, but maybe I could get it done before she graduates high school or college. I would appreciate any help you could give me. Your work is beautiful!
Hi Deborah! Thank you so much for your kind words. This wasn’t a pattern – we took a coloring book of B&B and traced our favorite pictures onto the fabric with a light box. Then we used an outline/cross stitch on the traced lines. I am sure you would get it completed way before she graduates. LOL We didn’t even use a fancy light box – it’s more of a piece of plexiglass with a light behind it. I guarantee she would love it!! ~smile~
Thank you ma’am for your help, now to locate a B&B coloring book.
I’ll bet you can find one at the dollar store!
This is beautiful!!!
Hi Janice! Thank you so much. Any thoughts on how we should finish it up or quilt it??
