Road Trip – Quilter’s Rule, Waterford, WI
Our friend, Carol, is a very talented seamstress and quilter. She is one of those people who you can ask, Can you fix this? And she can! Anything and everything. Also, she underrates herself and charges people “a nickel” when clearly they should pay more. Naturally, she has embraced quilting since it is just an extension of her other sewing skills. Her interest lately has been with rulers, and she has shared that spark with me. She is fueling the flame by taking us to a BIG SALE at Quilter’s Rule which is near our house.
I posted a short time ago that I have purchased one ruler, and one ruler foot. I had to get the foot to try out the ruler. Duh! I don’t really need to get more rulers since I’m not sure if I will like to use them or even use them at all. But a sale? Who can pass up a sale? Not me! Oh, I may have forgotten to mention that the ruler foot came with a ruler as well. So technically I have two rulers that I have never used. Right. For anyone that’s keeping track.
Quilter’s Rule Rulers
So before we went on the road trip to the BIG SALE, I visited the website of Quilter’s Rule. Just to see what they offer, and what I should look at. I made myself a little list, and put it in Notes in my phone. That way I’ll have the list with me, not that I have ever forgotten a list behind before or anything. Here is what my list entails:
- Nautilus feather tool
- Straight line tool
- Small daisy
- Sqiggle tool
- Basic blocks ruler like 3″ x 3″ or 2.5″ x 2.5″
Not too long of a list, huh?! I could talk myself out of the straight line tool as you can see the 12″ Arc Template above has a straight edge. A hands on demonstration would be perfect to determine if and how I might use these tools. Thankfully, they did offer such a demonstration, and that prompted me to purchase these rulers:
- Nautilus feather tool
- Small daisy
- Nested mini circles
- Nested ovals
- Nested diamonds
- Grip Stop Dots
And a couple of examples using their rulers that I found interesting:
We had a very fun day and now we have some new toys to quilt with! I need to figure out how to store all these fun toys . . . and I think Sue found a good option that I’ll share if it works out.
Our Linky Parties can be found by clicking the link for more quilting fun – check out what our friends are up to. Like/follow us on our Facebook page and share your latest project there! We love to see them. ~smile~
Maybe you can teach me a thing or two! 🙂
Sounds like you had a very educational and fun trip. Way to go for purchasing more rulers. I think it’s a rule that we have to have more than we need and yes, I was counting! 🙂 I hope your new rulers turn out to be everything you would hope for them to be. Can’t wait to see all your awesome quilting! 🙂
Hi Cindy,
You are so sweet! I hope to really get into them during the last week of the year. I have off between Christmas and New Year and I hope to give them a go. I hardly think I’ll be able to teach you anything!! ~smile~ Roseanne
One never knows! 🙂
I know you will figure this all out and do beautiful work with all those rulers! I noticed that you DID use your list, because there were some on both lists. =) I don’t know anything about leaving lists behind, either. 😉
Hi again,
HAHA – nope, never left a list behind! Actually, once I write it down I can usually recall what I wrote without looking at the list. But surely I would have forgotten on that shopping trip . . . ~smile~ Roseanne
Your road trips are filled with fun things and exciting shopping. Please keep us posted on the ruler experience. Maybe I will get brave enough to try them.
Hi Peggy,
I will do that. I am kind of looking forward to giving them a go. We shall see if I am coordinated enough to use them and move everything in sync. I’ll have to pull out the foot pedal – I haven’t been using it. ~smile~ Roseanne
I love this post. I am interested in purchasing more rulers for quilting, it is just that I have a low shank foot and need thinner rulers. I will have to see if they are offered in thinner thicknesses.
Hi!
I am going to be exploring the use of these in depth probably after the holidays – the next few weekends are kind of booked. They did have different widths, but I didn’t have to pay attention to that thankfully. Once I got them home I saw I had a variety of thicknesses. Thank you for visiting us and leaving a comment! I appreciate it very much and hope you come again. ~smile~ Roseanne
I love the clam shell design. That would look lovely on crib/baby quilts.
Hi Gretchen,
I agree – I am drawn to that design whenever I see it. It looks complicated but when you break it down it seems manageable. ~smile~ Roseanne
Glad you enjoyed your trip! I have all the rulers you purchased except the daisy.
Hi Vicki,
I was just thinking about how to use those rulers this morning! I’m off to a Christmas party so I’ll have to just keep thinking – no action. ~smile~ Roseanne
