Road Trip – Sew Sassy, Urbana, Illinois
While on a visit to see my brother in Central Illinois, we stopped in Sew Sassy. It is located in Urbana, Illinois. We found it to be just a short distance from I-74 in Lincoln Square. It is a little hard to find as we didn’t see a sign, and it wasn’t very clear that it was inside a mall of sorts. Being very dedicated to our mission of finding the shop once we set out for it, we were eventually successful.
As you can see in the picture above, it is very welcoming right from their doorstop. It was the first days of the Illinois Shop Hop. There were quite a few customers inside but they were very welcoming and helpful. They are participating in the 2017 Row by Row. It took a very blurry picture of their row – I apologize:
Sew Sassy Row by Row
The row shows a road crossing the finish line (and cute little stuffed animals hanging below it which were too cute!). They offered us the row as a pattern or kit, and we left with the pattern.
The shop offers a good selection of fabrics, especially batiks which were on sale. They also offer patterns, notions, sewing machine and a selection of classes. We also found a good selection of wide quilt backings.
Sew Sassy Models
Marian was very helpful and friendly. She told us about several classes she teaches. The shop has many models to tempt and inspire you. This one caught my eye, and reeled me in:
I love the colors in this quilt, as well as the quilting and finishing. We may need to add an airplane, gray and yellow quilt to our to-do list. ~smile~

I like the airplane quilt too and the fun cloud like quilting. I’d probably do different colours though, not quite my colours.
Hi Kathryn,
I agree about the colors but seeing the models always makes me think and plan how I may change things. I almost always plan for making them smaller for a baby quilt. ~smile~ Roseanne
Wow, that is a fun store. I’ll keep it in mind, if I ever found myself in the neighborhood.
Hi Preeti! Thanks so much for your visit and nice comment. Someday I would love to visit a quilt shop in every state – I guess that means a return to Alaska and Hawaii. ~smile~ Roseanne
I don’t know when I’ll ever get to Illinois but if I do and can visit this quilt shop, I will. Those are sweet quilts they displayed.
Hi Nancy, I would love to visit quilt shops in every state. What would you recommend near you? Roseanne
Love your road trips.
Hi Peggy! Alas, I don’t see any in my near future . . . but you never know. ~smile~ Roseanne
Looks like a very cool store. I agree, that airplane quilt is very eye catching.
Hi Kathy,
I know someone who would love that quilt for their new baby-to-be. It may need to be added to my to-do list! ~smile~ Roseanne
