Road Trip – Sweet Stitches Quilt Shop, Chesterton, IN
We took a road trip to Michigan but it had nothing to do with quilting. Nothing. New Buffalo, Michigan has a fabulous casino and it is at exit 1. Since it was a short visit – barely over two hours because we were NOT winning – we decided to make it a quilting trip. We had a fabulous chauffeur who doesn’t mind stopping at quilt stores. Between our house and the casino there are a lot of place we could stop, but we chose Sweet Stitches Quilt Shop in Chesterton, Indiana. The shop is right between I-94 and I-90 on Calumet Road, so it’s not much of an excursion. Is it ever too far for quilters anyway?!
A-1 Chauffeur to Chesterton
Sweet Stitches has a great selection of fabrics as well as many models to tempt you. Our chauffeur, Ken, had visited this store before and remembered that they had several different stuffed animals. As he and I discussed, the fabrics they chose for each animal was perfect – like this sea turtle and hedgehog right behind his head. I was taken by the giraffe and, of course, elephant. Look at that FACE on the giraffe!
I would love the make these someday, and the patterns are imports from Australia, which holds a special place in our hearts. We met owners, Joan and Rob who opened the store in January. They were very friendly and welcomed us warmly as we entered the shop. There is a separate area set aside for a classroom area, and two sewers were busy working while we visited. I wanted to ask them what they were working on, but didn’t want to interrupt.
We will definitely stop again! Aren’t you wondering why Ken visited this shop before yet it was our first visit? I just may reveal this secret . . . or not. Maybe you will guess?! ~smile~
