Second Plus Playtime Finish for November OMG
We set our November OMG way back on the first of the month to link up on Patty’s Elm Street Quilts. A short month, November is, with only 30 days AND a major holiday in the States. Okay, it’s not really that short but rather average. I don’t need to make excuses because our second Plus Playtime quilt is finished! Our November OMG finish means 11 straight months of making that goal. Woot woot! **Warning – lots of photos!**
November Plus Goodness
Just a little short recap in case you’re new here. Sandra at www.mmmquilts.com hosted a QAL and shared her published pattern with us. We made one Plus Playtime and enjoyed it so much we decided to make a second. A gift for Luke, this one has a decidedly more masculine feel. Made in grays and black/white prints, the backing has a mathematical feel because Luke loves all things math.
Plus FMQ Successes
A little mini goal was imbedded in the overall monthly goal. Would it be possible to quilt each of the 28 small plus blocks with a different pattern? Some nice quilty friends gave me some suggestions to try. This mini goal was not achieved, but I did try several new-to-me FMQ patterns.
Stippling, paisley, and large swirls in the photos above, and straight-ish 1/4″ lines, loop-de-loop, and small swirls below.
Deadline Reality FMQ
At one point during the month, I was certain this quilt would never be complete. Then I stopped fretting about it and just got busy. Lots and lots of swirls were required to fill up that big ‘ole gray plus sign. Improvement on the swirls is definitely evident when comparing the two photos, don’t you think? (Newest swirls on the right)
Well, maybe it doesn’t look like it but I felt more comfortable by the 400th swirl! One small plus sign was done with the name Luke in cursive, but it was too hard to photograph. I wonder if he’ll notice?!
Pluses were completed with a boxy geometric pattern, another with a stipple while the rightmost picture shows random star shapes. I am happy to have this one in the books.
Plus Wrap Up
Sue worked on tacking down the binding for me on Sunday.
If it weren’t for the blizzard warnings and the prediction of a foot of snow, outdoor pictures may have been offered up. Instead, a shot in the sewing room was warranted in this situation. In hindsight, I may not have selected black thread to quilt with but used gray instead. Now it needs a wash and dry.
A finish is a finish and it is nice to have this quilt ready to box and wrap ahead of time. We hope Luke enjoys it; lots of love has been sewn into it. ~smile~ Only 31 days left to finish up five other outstanding projects. We aren’t eligible to earn our PHD from Quilting Gail but we will have finished 12 UFOs in a year. That’s a win/win!
