The Demise of a T-shirt
Our first t-shirt quilt is under construction. Or maybe I should say demolition has commenced since the first step is to cut the t-shirts apart. Our friend, Pat, gave us a bag of t-shirts that she has collected while diving all around the Caribbean.
Here is the picture I shared when I first took them all out of the bag. So many pretty colors yet a common theme of the blue family. Surprise! Now it is time to cut up these t-shirts. Many have designs or small sayings on the back. Here is the process we used for our step one.
Step One – Cutting apart a t-shirt
I used my big fabric scissors to cut these t-shirts apart easily. I made sure I left plenty of room around the design, when possible. The Shark Rodeo shirt is a sleeveless tank so that makes extra fabric a small commodity.
It’s kind of scary, cutting these shirts apart. There is no going back now. We are committed. We can’t quite give Pat the bag back with remnants like this in it:
Here is the pile of t-shirts after they have been trimmed a bit:
Our next step is to organize these in to some semblance of order. After that we will give Pat some options on how these can be made into a quilt for her. It should easily make a good size lap quilt for cuddling under.
That’s it for this week! I hope your week is filled with many blessings. Happy Thursday!
