To-Do #107 Weekly Update
This is our 107th edition of our weekly to-do list. We share this post on Beth’s Cooking Up Quilts and at Becca’s What I Made Monday website on Mondays, and Christine’s Stitch All the Things website on Tuesdays. Check out what our friends are sharing!
To-Do for the week of April 22nd through 28th:
- Finish up the Bee Hive April blocks – √ done
- Baby Batik Dark quilt top together – √ done
- Quilt and bind April Showers runner – √ done
We hope you had a Happy Easter or Passover to those who celebrate – that seems so far away and long ago now doesn’t it?! Our Elna sewing machine quit and had to be taken in for repairs. What does one do when they can’t sew? Read, watch movies, eat, nap, complain and make one’s best friend’s life miserable . . . perhaps some of that might have happened. One can CUT fabric so one is ready to sew like crazy when the machine is fixed! Or the Brother embroidery machine may have been coaxed into use.
Turns out I really like using this little machine. It has needle-down function, a push stop/start button, and the cut-thread button. AND it even uses the same power cord as Ellie – no crawling around on the floor was necessary to get this baby up and running.
To-Do #1
The Ripple blocks went in the mail to Jen last Thursday. I had plenty of issues with assembling this block, although it shouldn’t have been difficult. Here’s a sneak peek with all the gory details to follow later this week.
To-Do #2
The Batik Dark baby quilt (needs a different name for one thing!) is all together and layered. Sue is going to hand quilt whales along with outlining the nine-patch blocks. I even have several blocks ready for the matching Batik Light baby quilt that she’ll hand quilt following this one!
To-Do #3
The appliqué umbrella blocks are all finished as are the raindrops in the colorful pieced border. Here’s a little sneaky peeky but all the dets will be shared tomorrow in our OMG post for the month.
April OMG
Our April goal to finish appliquéing our Spring Shower table runner is complete. Woot woot! We will share a post with all the details tomorrow, and will also share with Patty at Elm Street Quilts. Our thanks go to Patty and the sponsors for hosting this monthly link up.
To-Do for the week of April 29th through May 5th
Seriously – May already?? How is that possible?!!
- Start sewing another Dr Seuss quilt hogging the design wall
- May Bee Hive, color monthly block, and next step in Beothuk released – work on one of them
- Appliqué another page of the Quiet Book – if sewing machine is back ??
Our other Linky Parties can be found by clicking the link above or along the sidebar on our website for more quilting fun – check out what our friends are up to. Like/follow us on our Facebook page and you can share your photos of what you’re working on. We would love to see them!
Oh it really messes up a routine to have your sewing machine go down! I’ve still been struggling with my walking foot. The first generic foot I bought had a roller on it that got stuck and wore a flat spot on it and only a week and a half after I bought it! That meant it stopped feeding properly. I figured it was just a “stuff happens” kind of thing, so I ordered a second generic foot. That one ended up having a flat spring inside of it break after 10 days. I was so frustrated, and told Brad that this is what I get for trying to go cheap! I called Kens Sewing Center today (where I bought my Brother PQ1500S) and asked them where their walking foot comes from. They it’s an authentic Brother part and comes directly from the factory. So I ended up buying that today. Having to try and readjust my sewing without using the evenfeed foot has been interesting! I messaged my friend who had bought one of the generic feet as well, and she said she is having no problems. So either I got two lemons in a row, or it’s really a case of You Get What You Pay For. My husband is stumped as he says he can see absolutely no difference in the feet whatsoever, but after me having two generics break in under two weeks, he agreed that I definitely needed to pay the over double price for a guaranteed factory foot. If only for my peace of mine when sewing!
Anyway, sorry for the lengthy comment. I guess I just wanted to say I understand that when the machine is down or things aren’t working properly it definitely puts a kink in things. But you and Sue are coming along nicely despite all of that! YAY!!
Nice to have a back up machine when the main one complains! The ripple block looks great although I can imagine it was challenging.
Yay!!! Good luck on this week’s goal.
Hello Roseanne, I have missed you and your posts! You and Sue are keeping just as busy as bees and all of your projects are looking fabulous! I look forward to seeing and reading each and every post about your projects! With everything going on here, I just did not get anything posted. But boy did I get a bunch done this month. LOL. Still finishing up a few tea pots. Have a great day! Sending lots of hugs and smiles!!!
You look like you are taking the machine issue in stride, and keeping busy too. That bee block is cute!
Congrats on the finish and look forward to seeing it in all its glory! I love the little embroidery machine that was pressed into service. I always wanted one, but really have no need for it (I could make one up). I will (in another year or so) upgrade my Bernina….maybe I’ll get one that does everything! I hope to get my act together to get back on the OMG wagon – I did mine but missed signing up!
Glad you weren’t tortured too much by using your other machine!
All your blocks look perfectly pieced and pretty to boot! Congrats on getting your OMG completed. I missed both deadlines last month, as in forgot about them…where is my head! You guys are so organized. And of course I adore those little umbrellas.
