To-Do Tuesday for the week November 6th through 12th:
- Sew block #19 in the Grandma’s Kitchen QAL – √ done
- Block #10 in I Wish You a Merry QAL – √ done
- Finish six more microwave cozies – √ done
- Start quilting GG’s quilt – √ done
#1
The Pat Sloan Grandma’s Kitchen quilt along block #19 is called Mending Basket. Thankfully, it is a very easy block to construct as both Sue and I are over this quilt along. Be done already – HAHA. Yet I can’t quite dropout, but maybe we should. Finally, here is the completed block. I am very happy with the colors and the overall block but some of the points didn’t quite match up perfectly. Oh well. Oh, and I am still pressing the seams open.
#2
Block number 10 in the I Wish You A Merry quilt along is called Christmas Lantern. It is a pieced and appliqué block, which is a great combination for me. I enjoy piecing and now that there has been a small break from appliqué, I am ready to do more again. Somehow I was able to get the block all pieced – the instructions were excellent. I was going to work on appliqué but got a better offer when Dominic came over for a few hours. So, how cares about sewing?! Appliqué can wait . . .
#3
An even dozen microwave cozies is what I will to ship to my sister-in-law for her local pet shelter for a fund raiser/bazaar. I had wanted to ship TWO dozen but I forgot how busy this time of year is . . . so we included some other handmade items instead. I hope the bazaar sells them all!
#4
The quilting on one of the animal panels has commenced for GG, Dominic’s great-grandmother. She watches him now and then when his mom goes to school or to work, and the need is ‘urgent.’ I hope to have this finished quickly!
Extra:
I was planning on NOT sharing a Dominic picture this week let alone two. After all, this isn’t the all-things-Dominic-blog. But then I didn’t want to disappoint y’all either. I mean, look how cute he is, and he is 10 weeks old now! TEN! Here he is happily watching Mickey and kicking his feel, smiling and talking. OMG! I almost didn’t see him this week because it was it was snowing and icy on Friday. Shoot. That cannot happen another week – he’ll forget who I am. But then we got to watch the Packers beat the Bears on Sunday and we were all happy! So you get a two-fer this week.
November OMG Goal:
- Complete the Evening Star quilt top – all 20 blocks sewn together
To-Do November 13th through 19th:
- Sew block #20 in the Grandma’s Kitchen QAL
- Continue quilting GG’s animal quilt
- Get back to work on Evening Star before November slips away
- Finish the appliqué on the lantern

I’m agreeing with you that if Dominic shows up, sewing can wait! That is how it is around my house when my grand daughter comes for a visit! Your projects are moving along!
Hi Sharon,
It has put me a little behind on his stocking planning but oh well. ~smile~ Roseanne
I just love Dominic pictures! He is so precious! Love that Grandma’s Kitchen block, it looks great! I understand that feeling of wanting to just be done already. I get that way with most every QAL! You are doing great sticking it out, and there must only be one block left?? That lantern block is great, and I love the fabric you chose for the lighted part… Is it Grunge? I haven’t done any applique yet. I know I need to, but it just seems rather intimidating to me still. I think I want to start with an orange peel applique, the kind where you sew it with SF101 and then turn it right side out and fuse it down. That seems easier to me at this point. Maybe in 2018!! Happy sewing this week, and enjoy that sweet baby!
Hi Christine,
There are 25 blocks in this QAL. Ugg. Too long, but I am trying to stick it out. The lantern is from stash . . . it may be Grunge but it is probably MUCH older than that. HAHA The appliquéd stuff isn’t really hard; it’s more putsy. Trace the piece on the iron-on stuff, iron it on, cut it out, iron it to the actual piece and then buttonhole or stitch around it nice and slow. It is great for some people, or once and a while. I guess I now know I prefer piecing much more! ~smile~ Roseanne
That little Dominic is PRECIOUS! And unlike your sewing projects, babies don’t wait for us — they keep growing up when we’re not looking! I’m curious about your microwave cozies. I’ve never heard of those before and I couldn’t figure out from the picture how they are used??
Hi Rebecca!
Thank you for the sweet comments about Dominic – he is growing like a weed. The cozies are used for warming up food in the microwave. They have to be made with 100% cotton items – polyester thread will catch on fire. I’ve got a tutorial posted on our website about how I make them, and better pictures. We made a bunch for D’s baby shower as gifts. ~smile~ Roseanne
The animal quilt will be so cute. One cute quilt for one extra adorable Dominic! Your GK block looks fine, we can get to nit picky! Actually I’ll be glad to finish that particular quilt along too, not as enamoured with it as I had hoped. Oh Well, lesson learned!
Kathryn,
You are spot on – I am my worst critic. Who really cares in the long run – I’m not entering it for judging. These two QALs may be my first and last. We’ll see – and lesson learned. ~smile~ Roseanne
You are such a busy lady. I hope you are able to accomplish all of your goals. Perhaps I will be as productive as you hope to be. Love the photos of Dominic!
Hi Cindy,
There never seems to be enough time for quilting, especially at this time of year. I was happy to put the cozies for my SIL in the mail yesterday – phew. Met that goal with time to spare. And thanks for tolerating Dominic – he just lights up my world. ~smile~ Roseanne
I would share all the Dominic pictures you want – he’s so darn cute who can resist looking at his pic?? Not me!
Aww, thanks Beth! It’s not just me then?! ~smile~ Roseanne
Mr. D’s pictures are always welcome and I look forward to them. I understand about the GK quilt along. I found myself not enjoying the I Wish You A Merry QAL and I decided to continue to save the patterns but drop out for a while. I just do not enjoy applique and the more I try it, the more I do not like it. Sometimes we just have to give up something that is not bringing us joy and do more of the things that do.
Aww, Peggy! That’s a great way to look at it. We may not be making any more of either QAL – depends on if we like the blocks or not. They are just going on so long . . . with too many other things to do! Thanks for enjoying D! I certainly do . . . ~smile~ Roseanne
He is a cutie patootie!! And growing like a weed! I think we had a bit of icy conditions overnight Friday night, but we didn’t go out in it so it didn’t matter to us. Your bowl cozies look so cute all stacked up. Good luck on this week’s list.
Hi Vicki,
It was nuts getting home on Friday! There was an accident at the IL/WI border and then another one closer to home. I gave up and got off on the surface roads, only to find a few more. I was glad to get home! I really want to get that quilt finished this week. ~smile~ Roseanne
P.S. I want an update on that last craft fair and how you did!
