To-Do Tuesday #68 and Weekly List Update

To-Do for the week of November 17th through 23rd:
- Get the Sister blocks into a quilt top!! The giveaway started Sunday – √ done
- Start working on the top-secret Virtual Cookie project – √ done
- Seriously determine the Alaska Postcard quilting design – √ done
To-Do #1
The setting triangles have been added in a soft gray solid fabric that does its job so nicely as a supporting background team member. We tossed around adding a border or two but in the end, decided against it. The Sisterhood quilt needs a backing fabric suitably perfect and then it will be layered and quilted. Check out Sunday’s post for more details and pictures of all 17 International Sister blocks.
To-Do #2
One week from today, on December 1st, we will be participating in the Virtual Cookie Exchange Blog Hop. This is one of our favorite events that we’ve participated in thanks to Carol at Just Let Me Quilt. This year we’ve been working on a special project that was to delight all six of our great-nieces and -nephews on Christmas Eve. It remains to be seen if we will be able to gather, but said project will be gracing our table for sure. All will be revealed next week on the first day of the hop!
To-Do #3
Gosh, someday I’d like to approach a quilting project without hesitation. Rarely do I have a quilting design in mind prior to the end of the piecing of a quilt top. For the Alaska Postcard table runner, I could picture some straight-line ruler work around each of the cards.
I needed to pull out my plexiglass clear board and dry erase marker to test out my thoughts. If I could make it continuous lines, too, that would be all the better. Sue said the idea on the left was okay but why not just crosshatch this piece?! Well, that is another option . . .
November OMG:
This month we are shooting for a two-fer. Two table runners completely quilted and finished. That includes finding a backing, layering, and quilting times two. We will finish the last snowman runner and the Alaska Postcard runner. We will also link up with Patty at Elm Street Quilts.
To-Do for the week of November 24th through 30th:
- Decide and finish quilting the Alaska Postcard runner
- Sew the Maple Leaf block
- Start sewing the rows together for the Light Blue baby quilt

I’m also in favor of the straight lines for the Alaska postcard quilt, but it looks like a lot more more than the crosshatch would also work nicely. And your Sisters quilt top turned out so wonderfully. I love the on-point design.
You two are so busy! Sisters is turning out so great! I’m with you, Roseanne, I have to sit back and look at the quilt top for a while before deciding on how to quilt. Using the clear plexi glass is a great way to test out designs. Hope you enjoy Thanksgiving even without a gathering of family and friends.
Roseanne I can’t wait to see that reindeer project! The peek is so intriguing! I do like the look of the straight line quilting on your postcard quilt. It does really look like it will make the postcards pop!

I hope you have a great Thanksgiving. We will be staying home by ourselves this year, as will all the other parts of the family. With Covid numbers through the roof here in Iowa we think that’s the best course of action for this year.

Great progress on your list from last week, The sister blocks are stunning. So colorful. I really like the Alaska Post Care runner. And yes I’m doing the virtual cookie exchange. My day to post is December 1st. Which is sneaking up on me…I better get busy…have a great day!
Some really lovely photos of those projects. The sisters quilt top is wonderful (I guess setting goals every week really does pay off!!) and the Christmas project is really tantalizing. I like the straight line quilting on the postcard quilt. It leaves those cards untouched! Wishing you and yours a happy and safe Thanksgiving.
My 2cents? The crosshatch quilting idea on the postcard runner diminishes the postcards themselves…so I opt for the creative straight stitch ruler work!
That Rudolph is so stinkin’ CUTE!!! Aaargh, the Christmas projects are killing me this year. I don’t usually catch the bug of wanting to make holiday projects, but just this past week I got a strong hankering to make a scrappy one-patch or something simple like a disappearing 9 patch full of novelty Christmas prints, to snuggle under on the sofa while watching holiday movies. Found next to nothing in my stash, and even fewer novelty Christmas prints to choose from at my LQS! :-(. Seems they’re selling out on them this year, what with everyone stuck at home sewing quilts AND festive masks, and of course the shop owners could not have anticipated this additional demand when they were placing their fabric orders however long ago. I SHOULD stay home today and get my house clean, and make the dough for my pie crusts, and load something on the long arm… But I am fighting a wicked urge to trek to a farther away quilt shop to see if they have more Christmas prints to choose from!
Great job on your Sisters quilt top and the moose looks interesting! I love mooses! LOL Looking forward to seeing your project next week! Wow, December in one week already?!! Good luck on deciding your quilt pattern for the postage stamp quilt. Deciding on quilt designs is one of my problems as well!!
I had to go check out the virtual cookie exchange–sounds like fun! Became a follower so maybe I’ll join in next year! No magic words on choosing the quilting other than I just try not to overthink it. I’m not sure there’s a wrong answer so I try to go with the first one. But I do understand on some projects that you want it to be *just* right!

The sisters quilt is looking great, Rosanne! I never have a plan for quilting a project, either, and I often end up quilting a whole lot more complicated a design than I need to (Such is my current project…why change now?) 🙂
