To-Do Tuesday Edition Number 5
It doesn’t seem like we got much accomplished from our to-do list last week. Good thing there is another week to get something accomplished!
To-Do Tuesday for May 9th – 15th:
- Start assembly on the elephant baby quilt
- Continue work on blue/gray queen-size quilt
- Add sashing to ABC blocks
- Queen-size Cubs quilt for nephew (!!)
To-Do Tuesday for the week starting May 16th:
- Start assembly on the elephant baby quilt
- Complete 5 center sections of blue/gray queen-size quilt
- Add sashing to ABC blocks
- Try a stencil border on Finding Nemo

I think we were a bit over reaching when I thought we would start assembly on the elephant baby quilt! Although we have the fabric for the elephant baby quilt and I have shared the fabrics we plan to use, we did not start assembly or even cutting! We do have the elephant and balloon paper templates made. We need to narrow down the balloon colors with the mom-to-be. Here’s a reminder of the basic fabrics so far:
It’s a little hard to see in this photo, but the top solid gray (for the actual elephant) has different shading, texture and even a few splashes of blue. I think it will give it a real life look. I’m debating with myself on the appliqué technique. I don’t usually fold under fabric for a clean edge and to minimize fraying but this may require that.
#2 and #3
I sewed the remaining strip sets from the first jelly roll together. Handily, I also sewed a few of the blocks together wrong so I spent some time ripping. ~smile~ I also got three of the five center columns together, and a good start on the others. I think we have more than enough fabric with two jelly rolls. We want to make it a generous queen size quilt (called Jimmy John) so that’s a relief.
The first set of the ABC letters have moved off the design wall and are being used as a leader/ender. Small progress to be sure, but a little anyway!

I am back on the Finding Nemo baby quilt train. This time I am going to try using the Pounce marking chalk to stencil all sides of the border. I’ll share a picture of this product below. You just drag or rub the eraser-shaped pad over the stencil. The name pounce is a misnomer as pouncing will not work! I think the center will be straight line quilted, 1/4″ from the ditch. A friend also loaned me some quilting gloves, so I’ll see how I like using them. I have to get the blue/gray quilt off my work area before I start this because it is so full of lint pieces from the edges of the jelly roll.
The Cubs quilt is falling off the list for now. Too many other things to work on. I’ll give you an update on these projects next Tuesday, May 23rd. Our Linky Parties can be found by clicking the link.
Had to smile when I read the part about unpicking. Isn’t that always the case? In order to make forward progress. . . sometimes you have to backup a little.
Hi Robin! Those darn blocks are still giving me fits. I had to rip out the whole fourth column . . . twice. Geez. ~smile~

I like your elephant fabric, very cute. Thanks for linking up with Design Wall Mondays.
Hi Judy! Thank you so much. These linky parties are so helpful – they really motivate me, and I love seeing what others are doing ~smile~

That elephant fabric is really cute, and I can’t wait to see the full effect of the fabric you described… sounds like it really will look elephant-like! I’ve never tried a pounce pad, I’ll be looking forward to hearing how that works out for you!
Hi Christine! Thanks so much for the sweet comments. I am looking forward to getting going on that elephant quilt and using the Pounce pad. Saturday morning my plan is to try marking out the stencil. I hope it works well! ~smile~
Don’t be nervous, the pounce chalk is easy to work with and brush or iron away. The elephant quilt sounds cute.
Hi Carole,
Thank you for the words of encouragement. That Pounce project is on my docket for tomorrow morning, first thing. I need a little quilting time instead of just sewing, sewing, sewing . . . ~smile~ Roseanne
Your elephant fabric is so pretty and…well…gentle! He looks so hugable! I’m sure it will be absolutely gorgeous! Thank you for sharing!
Hi Patricia! Thank you so much for your kind words. We can hardly wait to meet him or her, and we hope they can feel the love in each stitch of the quilt ~smile~
I love that cute elephant fabric! That should be a really cute quilt. I’m not a fan of Pounce. I really like Frixion pens. Although, I think marking with the Pounce would be a lot faster. Please do a follow up report on how it works for you. 🙂
Hi Sharon – this comment went into spam too. I really looked at those Frixion pens for marking the border but the Pounce was so much faster as you mentioned. I think I was easily done in 5 – 10 minutes with all four sides . . . and I’m sure I would still be working with the pens. HAHA

If I make a list, I need to keep it short. Otherwise, it’s discouraging! Good luck on yours, and thanks for sharing at Midweek Makers
Hi Susan – I agree. If my list is too long it’s to overwhelming and nothing gets done. Just bits and pieces of many things, which is kind of how I feel now. I want to start something new . . . but I don’t dare ~smile~

That elephant fabric is adorable! That quilt is going to be so cute. I have a Pounce pad that I haven’t used yet. I’m interested to hear your thoughts on this product.
Hi Sarah! I’m a little nervous to try the Pounce pad . . . but then it washes off if I mess up. And the stitching easily comes out too . . . so I just need to get in there and give it a try. I need my side table cleared off of the blue/gray fabric – lint is ALL over the place and I need room to quilt. ~smile~
