To-Do Tuesday Linky #4 & Weekly Progress Update
This is the 125th edition of the weekly to-do list and the fourth post as a linky party here on our website. I hope you consider linking up, and I’d like to thank everyone who joined us last week.
To-Do for the week of August 27th through September 2nd:
- Celebrate Dominic’s 2nd birthday – √ done
- Quilt Rainbow Ripples and share a pattern – √ pattern is released
Note to myself for next year: don’t expect anything to get accomplished the first week that staff and students are back to school!
To-Do #1
Our sweet boy turned two yesterday, on the second. We had a birthday party celebrating him on Saturday evening. That boy loved every.single.moment of that celebration. He smiled and smiled all night, and pulled out all of his party tricks like Ring Around the Rosie, and counting (two, seven, eight, nine, ten). Oh, and we can’t forget the ABCs – A, B, C, D, E, S.
Gosh, we had a good time with this sweet boy and all the guests. His grandma made him a special cake, and he enjoyed that as well.
To-Do #2
I started quilting the Rainbow Ripples quilt top on Saturday morning (if you click that link you’ll find the pattern and templates). First, I tried following the outline of the ripples with my walking foot. That looked a bit too angular and not quite right. Then I tried to follow the curves, ignoring the corner points. I wasn’t feeling that quilting pattern and look either.
Starting on Sunday morning, Sue and I took turns ripping out the previous day’s quilting efforts. I hated to do it but it just wasn’t right. Monday, I pulled out some practice quilt sandwiches to try a few different options out. Here are two that I tried, both with rulers.
On the left is the inside flower pattern, while the right is a wavy pattern. Just FYI, the right is the option Sue wanted all along . . . and will probably be our ultimate choice. ~smile~
September OMG
For the September OMG (one monthly goal), we will try to complete the Rainbow Ripples quilt top. We will link this goal on Patty’s Elm Street Quilts website and linky party, and share a separate post with more details.
To-Do for the week of September 3rd through 9th
- Chose the fabric for the lavender Color of the Month block by Jen
- Decide on the quilting motif for Rainbow
Here is the linkup and just a few easy rules to follow:
- Share your post or Instagram photo in the linky tool (but don’t share a link to your own linky party or giveaway)
- Please point your readers back here with a text link or use the button from the right sidebar
- Please visit and comment on other participants’ messages as time allows
The link-ups are displayed on a separate screen but I hope you check them out!
The Linky Parties we join can be found by clicking the link above or along the sidebar on our website for more quilting fun – check out what our friends are up to. Like/follow us on our Facebook page and you can share your photos of what you’re working on. We would love to see them!
Dominic looks tall and long-legged for a 2 year old. In his picture of running in the wind, he seems to have a nice long stride, too.
I also like the wavy quilting pattern for Rainbow Ripples. It’s one of my favorite quilting looks. Of course your waves will be more consistent than any of the wavy quilting I’ve ever done! Have a great day! Mary
Birthdays! Fun! Happy Birthday, Dominic!
I joined your ripping-out-party this week. Ha ha! Hexies! I liking your curvy lines for your Rainbow quilt, if you want my opinion. 🙂
Belated Happy Birthday to Dominic. Not surprised he would smile throughout – he has a LOT to smile about, not the least of which is that awesome cake!
Great birthday pics! Thank you for posting them! Looking forward to the finished rainbow ripples as well…
Glad the boy had a happy day!!! Hope your week is getting back to school year normal soon!
Yum!! Birthday Cake. He was such a great little guy to sit for photos with that cake staring him in the face. Love the way he counts and recites the alphabet. Brave to pull out all that quilting. Since it was with a walking foot, it was probably easier than if it had been free motion quilted. My stitches are not so even on the FMQ.
Dominic is all legs!
I liked seeing your trials on how to quilt the Rainbow Ripples – but aarg! that you had to rip out your first attempts!
Two already. Happy birthday to Dominic. Thanks for that link too!
What fun to celebrate with Dominic; his smiles make it all worthwhile! Oh man, ripping out all that?!? Good thing you could take turns! It’s going to turn out great, though, whatever you choose!
Good luck on Rainbow Ripple –
I admire you and Sue for taking out those stitches. You’ll be happier in the end.
Happy Birthday to Dominic! That cake looks fun – glad Dominic enjoyed it all! Thanks for sharing your pattern and templates for Rainbow Ripples, too. Good luck with your quilting! Hope you’re having a great beginning to your week, Roseanne!
Sounds like Dominic’s party was a huge success! Lucky young man — he’s such a cutie ♥♥ Thanks for sharing the pattern and templates — I’m hoping to give curved piecing another try 🙂
