To-Do Tuesday Edition Number 6
Check mark next to everything on our to-do list last week. I feel quite accomplished. And next week includes a nice long weekend to get something accomplished!
To-Do Tuesday for May 16th – 22nd:
- Start assembly on the elephant baby quilt √
- Complete 5 center sections of blue/gray queen-size quilt √
- Add sashing to ABC blocks √
- Try a stencil border on Finding Nemo √
#1
We have started the appliqué on Baby J’s quilt. Sue traced the elephant and its smaller pieces on web interfacing. I got the elephant sewed and flipped. This shot shows the appliqué:
I sewed around the traced line and flipped it out like this:
You can kind of see the splotches and different tones in this fabric. The fabric is Grunge by Moda. I saw someone else using this fabric in a blog recently and didn’t know I had purchased it and would be using it too. Small fabric world!
#2
All five center panels are complete for the blue/gray quilt. I got three together and the 4th gave me issues so it is on pause. This will be another quilt we ask our friends at Corner to Corner Quilting Service to quilt this for us. If Ellen is still following us, maybe she’ll give us a suggestion on how it should be quilted. Here are the three of the five center panels. You can see the gray ombre fairly well:
#3
The first three rows of the ABC letters have moved off the design wall and have a sashing! Small progress to be sure, but a little anyway! I suspect this will be complete next weekend and in the to-be-quilted pile.

Finding Nemo is all layered and Pounced. HAHA The stencil I am using on the border is rather fish inspired. It is a wide oblong oval – does that even make sense?! I used the Pounce marking chalk that I mentioned last week. Here is a photo of that process:
Thank you, Carol, for letting me borrow your Pounce pad. It was VERY easy to use. You can see in the header picture how I lined up the stencil. I decided to angle the corner. The one pictured here is a bit high so I will move that down when I start sewing. It seems like I will be able to sew the design without stopping. I’ll share those pictures once I get started. I’m thinking the middle should have wavy ~~~~~ stitching to look like, well, waves. <g>
To-Do Tuesday for the week starting May 23rd:
- Start sewing strips for the outside panels of the blue/gray quilt
- Finish sashing on ABC blocks; sew rows and borders on
- Machine quilt Finding Nemo
- Complete all the appliqué pieces for the baby quilt
- Sew binding on the gray polka dot quilt
- Find fabric for the Cubs quilt
I’ll give you an update on these projects next Tuesday, May 30th. Our Linky Parties can be found by clicking the link.
Oh I love your elephant! The splotches are perfect!! Will he go on a background fabric or pieced quilt? Your blue and gray is gorgeous, too. I have never been able to get my pounce thing to work. I sat here and pounced for what seemed like a half an hour one day, trying to load it with chalk. It went back in my drawer. I’m glad yours worked so well! Happy Quilting!!
Hi Ramona! I’ve been working on Ellie this weekend and just finished putting on the two borders. The quilt top is finished! I watched a video on YouTube about the Pounce pad – to drag it over the stencil in spite of its name. You would think you would pat it up and down but the dragging pulls out the chalk. Maybe a video would help you? I hope so because it was really quick to mark the stencil. ~smile~ Roseanne
Hi There! You got so much accomplished! Congratulations! Your elephant looks so precious! Thank you for sharing!
Hi Patricia – thank you! I’ve got him clipped all around (since I can’t press him to the background yet). I’m going to post a picture on our FB page just to tease my niece. ~smile~
Love Grunge! How did the stitching on the Pounce marked lines go? Did they stay on to see clearly?
Hi Sharon! For some reason your comment went into spam. Geez – I apologize for not replying earlier. The Pounce markings have stayed on well. I started quilting the center last night in a ~~ pattern (that I’m not sure I like) and the chalk marking are still nice and clear. I hope to get the whole thing finished this weekend. That’s the plan, anyway. ~smile~

Lots of projects going on – can’t wait to see the finished quilting! Thanks for sharing on Midweek Makers
Hi Susan! I hope to have a very productive Memorial Day weekend. ~smile~

Ellen here, yes I’m still following you.
Without seeing the actual quilt it’s hard to say what the quilt needs, but possibly semi custom. The sashing looks like it wants something special, yes I listen to quilts!
Hi Ellen – I am sure you do. They all have a story to tell. This quilt is so linear and those columns are just begging for something cool. ~smile~ Roseanne
Wow, GREAT progress this week! I absolutely love how you both created the appliqued elephant. The Grunge fabrics are some of my favorites and it was the perfect choice for the elephant.
Love the blue grey quilt, and that grey ombre fabric looks fantastic between the rows. It really gives it a neat effect.
Thanks for showing pictures of how you used the stencil and pounce pad. It looks like it gives you a really clear, and neat, line. I like it!
Hi Christine! Thanks for all the kind words. It didn’t seem like we accomplished much especially when the fourth column gave me trouble. It may never get done now. Grrr. You should see the elephant now with an eye, ears and a couple of toenails. OMG! Adorbs if I do say so myself. HAHA The Pounce pad was SOOOO easy to use, and as you mentioned, it left a nice clear line to stitch on. ~smile~ Roseanne
