Tutorial – Mon Premier – My First – Quilt
I have followed Pat Sloan and her various websites and Facebook page for most of 2017. Just recently I noticed she had a web page of free quilt patterns, so I took a peek at them. One really caught my eye, and I thought I would share it with you. The pattern is called Mon Premier which is French for ‘My First.’ This was designed and made by Candace Wasman, a member of Pat’s online community. Candace offered to write up the pattern tutorial for this quilt, and Pat offered to assist her – here is the culmination of their efforts.
Mon Premier
Supplies Needed:
- 72 assorted mini charms or cut your own 2 1/2 inch squares
- 17 assorted 4 1/2 inch squares
- 41 assorted 1 inch x 5 1/2 inch colored strips (for border)
- 2 yards background fabric
- 2 1/2 yards backing fabric
- 48 x 56 piece of batting
- 1/2 yard binding fabric
Candace made her quilt in shades of gray, pink and white, and she calls this a real stash buster. You can see from the photo that her range of both pinks and grays go from mid to dark. Her choice of white fabrics have either pink or gray in them or both. My favorite part of this quilt is the border with the random pink stripes!
The link directly to the .pdf of Mon Premier is found by clicking on the name. The quilt finishes at approximately 40″ x 48″ which is a nice and generous sized baby quilt. I would love to have a baby girl to sew this up for! How about you? Is this a quilt that interests you? I hope so.

Hi Roseanne, Don’t ask me how I found this but here I am. Thank you for your very kind and encouraging words about Mon Premier. Funny thing is, I am about to do a “Mon Premier Redux” as I want to make it into a twin size. I’ll let you know how it goes. Hugs Candy
Oh and one more thing…I tried clicking on the “like button” but for some reason the wonders of technology will not let me do so. To answer your question, “Yes I have turned off my iPad and rebooted it.” LOL! 🙂
Sorry about the like button . . . and I’m glad you rebooted!! It’s so simple but it always seems to fix the ailments too. Not nagging . . . ~smile~ Roseanne
No biggie! Depending upon which device I’m using the “like” is not always useable on any blogs. Surrrrre! LOL! 🙂
Roseanne, I can see why you admire this quilt. It is so pretty. I can just imagine the possibilities for a scrappy quilt. I’m going to add this pattern to my wish list. I have already printed it. Thank you for sharing the pattern. 🙂
Hi Cindy,
Oooh, I can’t wait to see your more modern take on this. Hmmm . . . the possibilities! ~smile~ Roseanne
Shall be very fun! 🙂
Nice use of candy charms!
Hi Nancy,
There is nothing about this quilt that I don’t like – nothing! She sure picked great fabrics all the way around. ~smile~ Roseanne
