Under My Needle – To-Do Tuesdays
What’s under your needle? Here’s a few projects that I have going and I thought you might like to see how far along we are on them. This goes along with the current project list, sort of . . . except with more details. ~smile~ I am going to try to post every Tuesday with our To-Do list, and link it up with other websites that host other bloggers. This is our Tuesday To-Do list for the week beginning April 18th:
- Complete the purple woven quilt top
- Send it off for long-arm quilting
- Begin sewing blue/gray quilt
- Continue sewing strips for 16-patch blocks
- Add sashing to ABC wall hanging #1
Do you think this is too much to accomplish in one week? Of course, I’m an overachiever so for our first To-Do Tuesday list I am aiming high. I can always adjust and make the list smaller the following week. ~smile~
First up on our list is the purple woven quilt. I am embarrassed to say that I first wrote about it here, way back in February. There were a few minor updates along the way, like when it was mentioned or actually pictured in the Push Through article. I have to admit we have definitely been interrupted or redirected since beginning this queen size quilt. Our plan is to make 56, 12″ finished size blocks with at least one border. We want it to be a generous size, so we may add a small inside border followed by the wider outside finish border. We are actually going to be sending this quilt out for long-arm service, our first time for doing this. Our reasons for trying this are numerous, but the two main ones are that it has been promised for over a year (!!) and it will be too darn hot to quilt it over the next few months.
Along these same lines and up next is the blue/gray quilt. Out of left field we were asked to make another queen size quilt, and needless to say it is backlogged behind the purple one. We have gone so far as to find and purchase the fabric for this quilt, and I suspect Sue will begin cutting it shortly. We chose two Moda Fabrics: one is called Ombre Graphite and the other is a blue-hued Shirbori:
We’ve never worked with an ombre fabric, and I have to say I love the idea. While the blue fabrics are all different, they are all within the same blue family yet they will all look different with these different shades of graphite/gray. This color set is a bit outside our usual wheelhouse – much darker and very un-baby-like! It will be fun to start this quilt.
Next up is the 16-patch and framed 4-patch quilt which I discussed in this earlier article. All the frames are finished, and I have just begun sewing the four strips together to be cut apart and then sewn back together – all mixed up.
Our last to-do-Tuesday project is the first of the ABC quilts for our Etsy shop (found here). All the A-B-Cs have been hand appliquéd – I am almost done with the next set for the second wall hanging. I just need to get started on adding the sashing to each letter and then the rows can start to be formed.
I’ll give you an update on these projects next Tuesday, the 25th! I’m linking up with To-Do-Tuesdays, Linky Tuesday, WOW Wednesdays, My Quilt Infatuation, Finished or Not Friday, and Main Crush Monday.
Yes you do have a lot on your list this week, but with 2 working on it, hopefully doable! I’m looking forward to seeing the completed purple woven quilt top!
There is hope, Sharon, that it may be complete and at the quilter. That’s so nice of you to comment ~smile~
I am so glad you’ve joined To-Do Tuesdays! I find it helps me to be accountable and I end up finishing my projects simply because I put it “out there” that I would! But, I’m not hard on myself when I don’t complete the whole list. Like you mentioned, I just adjust the list and move on!
I can’t wait to see the quilt tops you and Sue complete!
